A iluminação (natural e artificial) constitui um dos aspetos fundamentais do projeto dos edifícios. Embora as ações de reabilitação que envolvem a componente de iluminação artificial sejam relativamente comuns, a componente de iluminação natural é frequentemente descurada, sendo, no entanto, fundamental para a obtenção de boas condições ambientais interiores e para eficiência energética global dos edifícios. (Lighting (natural and artificial) is one of the fundamental aspects of building design. Although the rehabilitation actions involving the artificial lighting component are relatively common, the natural lighting component is often neglected, however, it is essential for obtaining good indoor environmental conditions and for the overall energy efficiency of buildings.)

Nos edifícios, a iluminação é, inquestionavelmente, um dos aspetos que mais contribui para o conforto ambiental e a eficiência energética. A caracterização “in situ” das condições de iluminação (natural e artificial) pode ser necessária por diferentes razões. Embora a caracterização das condições de iluminação artificial sejam relativamente habituais, a avaliação sistemática das condições de iluminação natural possui ainda limitações de várias ordens. Assim, e face às limitações dos métodos tradicionais existentes, propõe-se com o presente trabalho, uma metodologia sistemática de caracterização das condições de iluminação natural nos edifícios, baseada na avaliação “in situ” e em análises complementares, que se considera adequada a regiões com predominância de céus não-encobertos.

The need for shading devices to be able to simultaneously perform several functions, may pose a number of potentially conflicting issues as a result of compatibilisation and articulation problems, in particular with regard to the control of solar gains and to the control and modelling of daylight inside buildings. The present paper analyzes some methodologies that allow the enhancement of the luminous performance of shading devices, and present new characterization approaches that take into account the influence of the occupants in the final daylighting performance. The results of “in situ” characterizations are also presented, which included the objective and subjective evaluation of the effects of the shading devices on the visual comfort of the occupants.
