The Gambia report forms part of the 10 country study on 'Child Marriage in Africa' by the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria. The report examines the prevalence, causes and impacts of child marriage in The Gambia. It sets out the legal frameworks that prohibit child marriage and describes some of the circumstances that result in laws being ineffective in practice. Without discounting the needs of children who are already married or adults who were married as children, it outlines a selection of successful interventions and makes recommendations towards the progressive elimination of child marriage in The Gambia.
