An Integrated Process Management Model as Regards Design Performance Improvement of Companies Producing and Marketing Kitchen Systems

Goal: Mutfak sistemleri üreten ve pazarlayan bir firmanın, proje hizmeti kapsamında tasarım performansını etkileyebilecek tüm sorunları tespit etme, değerlendirme ve çözüm geliştirme yaklaşımı işletme düzeyinde rekabete yönelik üstünlük sağlayabilecek; taktik düzeyde yönetimsel kararları destekleyebilecek ve operasyonel düzeyde üretkenliği artırıp zaman kayıpları ve çatışmaları minimize edebilecektir. Bu deneyimleri içeren bir firma hafızası oluşturulması ise kaçınılmaz bir zorunluluk olacaktır. Araştırmada ele alınan problem; tüm bunların gerçekleştirilmesini sağlayacak, firma özniteliklerini gözönünde bulunduran ve mutfak tasarım performansını artırmayı amaçlayan bütünleşik bir süreç yönetim modelinin olmamasıdır. Yapılan literatür araştırması sonucunda, genel olarak tasarım performansına yönelik çalışmalar bulunmasına karşın, spesifik olarak mutfak sistemleri üreten ve pazarlayan firmaların gerçekleştirdikleri tasarım hizmetinin performansını tüm tasarım sürecini ele alarak ölçmeye ve değerlendirmeye yönelik bir çalışma ya da model tespit edilememiştir. Buna ek olarak, sektördeki mutfak sistemleri üreten ve pazarlayan firmalar ile yapılan ön görüşmeler sonucunda, bu firmaların konuyla ilgili taleplerinin yüksek olduğu görülmüştür.

Araştırma kapsamında yukarıda tanımlanmış olan problemin çözümüne yönelik hedefler, firmanın öznitelikleri doğrultusunda tasarım performansını etkileyen problemlerin çözümüne yönelik bütüncül bir süreç yönetim modelinin önerilmesi; süreç yönetim modelinin bir parçası olarak bayi ağı üzerinden sağlanabilecek bir geri bildirim mekanizmasıyla tüm paydaşların birbirlerinin deneyiminden yararlanmasının sağlanması; süreç yönetim modelinin bir parçası olarak AR&GE departmanlarının ihtiyaç duyduğu müşteri memnuniyetine ilişkin verilerin yapılandırılması ve bu verilere dayalı analitik çalışmalar üzerinden stratejilerin geliştirilebilmesine yönelik kavramsal çalışmaların ve ardışık olarak bu kavramsal çalışmalara dayanan nesnel boyutta bir yazılım modelinin geliştirilmesi olarak belirlenmiştir.

A kitchen design with high performance can be achieved only by creating appropriate solutions in line with the requirements of the person(s) who will use the kitchen. User requirements are mainly divided into two groups as physical requirements and psycho-social requirements. One of the psycho-social requirements of users can be considered as aesthetic needs. When we consider aesthetic requirements in the design of the kitchen we see that the most important components are the countertop material and the cabinet door type and the visual harmony between them. The target and objective of this study in this context is to obtain the statistical data revealing which cabinet door type is used in combination with which countertop material in kitchen design and convert the results incident to such statistical data into a meaningful data analysis table that will help the designer to make the right decision in the choice of cabinet door type and the countertop material. The cabinet door types and the countertop materials which will be studied have been defined at the first stage as the methodology of this study within the purview of this defined scope and purpose with the grounds thereof. Subsequently, 1.309 actual kitchen projects have been examined in order to obtain statistical data showing the relationship between the countertop materials and the cabinet door types. In the final stage of the study the mathematical relationship between these statistical data obtained as a result of these examinations have been converted into a meaningful data analysis table.

Scope and objective of this work has been determined as revealing problems which occur/may occur at the stage of "making survey and analysis of the kitchen space" which has an important role in the proper progressing of the project service period of the companies producing and marketing kitchen systems development of suggestions for solving the cited issues. As the methodology in line with this defined scope and objective, a web-based survey, with the attendance of all dealers of the company has been conducted with an eye to determine at the first stage how the designers of the company taken as sample model (having 60 dealers at national and international level) have carried out works as to making survey and analysis of the kitchen space. In the following stage, the results obtained from this survey conducted were evaluated and issues were identified. Subsequently, a literature search for solving these issues and interviews with relevant departments of the company were carried out and a standard form and registration system were created in line with the obtained data. At the final stage, this form and registration system were presented to the company's design teams and management departments by virtue of a web-based survey. Furthermore, it has been practically tested in a store deemed important by the company and has taken its final form by revising it in line with all the feedbacks received. The form and registration system developed in this study will be a part of the software model designed in the research project entitled "A Holistic Process Management Model for Increasing the Design Performance of Companies which Produce and Distribute Kitchen Systems".

The success of the interior designer is measured to the extent the interior designer meets user requirements. As such, the most important factor affecting the performance of the designer, is making evaluations for identifying users correctly and completely at the preliminary preparation stage. Interviews are made with the user at the beginning of the design process with an eye to learn the preferences, lifestyle and expectations thereof. There are several documents which will help the designer to make correct determinations at this stage. The more complete data is obtained by virtue of these documents, which in general have the nature of questionnaire, the higher performance will be achieved by the designer. The objective of the study, in this context, was determined as examination of the documents which were benefited for identifying the features of the user at the preliminary preparation stage by the designer and proposals of the designer made for necessary revisions to obtain complete and accurate data by these documents. The scope of the study is limited only to kitchen design in order to obtain detailed results. Documents related to the identification of the user as to kitchen design was researched in line with the specified scope and objective at the first stage as methodology. At the next stage, all data obtained were examined in a systematic way by comparing and the deficiencies of documents were shown. At the final stage the proposals were made to eliminate the said deficiencies. It will be possible to have the projecting process proceed more accurately and increase the designer performance by using a questionnaire to be created in line with the recommendations made within the context of the study.
The sales/marketing approach of companies, producing and marketing kitchen systems in today's global competitive environment which is only not limited aesthetics, quality and functional performance but also supporting these products with kitchen design services in line with the wishes and requirements of users, has become more and more widespread for sectoral competitiveness and accordingly the issue of kitchen design performance has gained great significance for these types of companies. In this context, scope and objective of the study is to put forward the problems which arise/which may arise in studies conducted in order to determine the wishes and requirements of users which is a part of the project service process of companies producing and marketing kitchen systems and development of solution proposals to eliminate such problems. In line with this defined scope and objective, a web-based survey has been conducted to find out how the designers of a company taken as an example have performed all the related studies to determine the wishes and requirements of users at the first stage as methodology. Subsequently, the results obtained from this survey have been evaluated and the problems have been revealed.
One of the most studied areas for increasing the performance of interior design is the kitchen. The reason for this is it’s being the most important area of work compared to other areas from which high performance in many criteria is expected such as functionality, durability and hygiene. As a result of the literature survey carried out within the purview of the study as to increasing the design performance it was found that scientific efforts for increasing the performance of kitchen design is divided into two groups. The first group consists of those germane to industrial kitchen products. Studies in the other group provide information as regards basic design rules for increasing the kitchen design performance. There was no study on establishing the relation between "basic design rules" and "user requirements" in a systematic way for increasing the kitchen design performance in these obtained resources. As such, the purpose of this study is establishment of a systematic classification in which a relational link between the design rules proposed for increasing the performance of kitchen design with user requirements in kitchen is created. The scope of the study is limited to only one of the user's requirements with an eye to reach more accurate results. In line with this identified scope and purpose, the methodology of the study is determined as which of the user requirements will be discussed in the first phase with the reasons thereof. Subsequently, a literature survey was conducted and the set of design rules for increasing the kitchen design success was created. A systematic classification in which the relational link has been established between the design rules and user requirements at the last phase.
