Project

AQUA-FAANG

Goal: AQUA-FAANG "Advancing European Aquaculture by Genome Functional Annotation" will deliver a step improvement in understanding of genome function and exploitation of genotype-to-phenotype prediction in the six most important European farmed fish species. AQUA-FAANG will functionally annotate the genomes of all six species, employing standardized experimental assays and analysis pipelines defined by the FAANG initiative. AQUA-FAANG datasets will be shared and coordinated with other FAANG initiatives via the FAANG data coordination centre, and made available through the Ensembl genome browser.

Job purpose:
Perform independent research contributing to AQUA-FAANG project.
• Generate and analyse ChIP-Seq and ATAC-Seq data in two salmonid fish species. • Identify evolutionarily conserved and divergent functional elements in six teleost fish genomes using ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq, and RNA-Seq datasets.

The Aquaculture and Fisheries Group of the Department of Animal Sciences in Wageningen University & Research, is looking for:
- a comparative physiologist with a strong interest in gill functioning who is curious about the interaction between the environment (e.g. water quality) and fish health.
- an aquaculture expert with a strong interest in aquaculture production systems, preferably recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and the effects thereof on culture animals.
