Goal: 3D Printing and Biology, 3D printing bird eggs, 3D modeling bird eggs, artificial egg for the great tit Parus major.

3D modelling and 3D printing enable us to produce artificial eggs that match more accurately the eggs for any species, such as for the great tit (Parus major). Eggs vary in shape, size, and colour among bird species and 3D printing allows custom made solutions for each of them. Artificial Canary eggs are easy to use in some research projects as they are commercially available, but their shape and size limits their application to only few species who accept them as their own eggs. We took the averages of thousands of measurements for creating this standard egg replicate of a great tit egg.

@A little more background on this 3D project:
We I've been trying to create a 3D model of a great tit egg to use for research projects. First we have printed 3D bird eggs by 3D scanning them to make the 3D model. In addition, we try to build a 3D model from scratch. The research projects are done on urban and rural great tit populations involving study on incubation behavior and temperature. In the 3D printed eggs we can install temperature loggers inside of an artificial egg, filled with fluid, and then place this in the nest. Older methods like handmade clay eggs, can be substituted by the 3D printing route.

3D bio printing is used for the production of artificial organs. A Computer Aided Design (CAD) is used to visualize the specifications and patterns of the three-dimensional organ. In this way various organs systems can be engineered as three-dimensional (3-D) structures. The 3D bio printing technique allows to combine various cells and biomaterials freely in 3D space and to study them in a systematic and reproducible way.
