The current meta-analysis study is to examine K-12 school students’ self-report of bullying against their teachers. Following the PRISMA method, the current study included 7 peer-reviewed journal articles that provided sufficient data, with a pooled prevalence of 17.3%. Country was found as a significant moderator.

The current meta-analysis study is to investigate the prevalence of student bullying behavior against teachers in K-12 schools around the world. Compared to the previous meta-analysis study on a similar topic, the current study recorded various categories of students' bullying behaviors, such as verbal, physical, sexual, and cyberbullying. Followin...

This study investigated predictors of intention to seek help from university authority figures and to file an official report after experiencing bullying among college students. Three identified significant predictors were attitudes (specifically perceived empowerment regarding seeking help, reliance on others), and perceived behavioral control ove...

Background Although simulation-based education plays a vital role in nursing education, it consistently induces high levels of anxiety among nursing students. This study aimed to implement a mindfulness intervention to alleviate anxiety in nursing students during simulation sessions. Method This randomized controlled trial study included 54 nursin...

For more than two decades, researchers/schools have adopted Self-Determination Theory (SDT)- based interventions to provide valuable insights into improving education process. The systematic review examined 36 SDT-based intervention studies (N = 11,792 participants) to understand the nature and effects of these interventions in promoting students’...

This study examined university students' perceptions about reporting bullying within the university, using the theory of planned behavior (TPB), with a focus on attitudes, perceived subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. The study includes 458 current students from four U.S. universities who were asked to imagine a bullying scenario an...

Careless responding, where participants do not fully engage with item content, is pervasive in survey research. Left undetected, carelessness can compromise the interpretation and use of survey results, including information about participant locations on the construct, item difficulty, and the psychometric quality of the instrument. We present and...

Most education systems were severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result, learning shifted from face-to-face to online in higher education institutions. This unprecedented shift in the learning environment caused substantial challenges for students. The situation was more severe in developing nations such as Bangladesh, which lacked...
Article
Careless responding is a pervasive issue that impacts the interpretation and use of responses from survey instruments. Researchers have proposed numerous useful methods for detecting carelessness in survey research, including relatively simple summary statistics such as the frequency of adjacent responses in the same category (e.g., “long-string” a...
Conference Paper
It was widely acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic jeopardized students’ motivation. This research uses three studies to explore whether the diminished learning motivation could recover over time and how the recovery happens. The first study was grounded in Self-determination Theory (SDT) to explore the motivation and regulation styles that affe...

Internalization is an important component of motivation and self-determination. In most of the previous studies of internalization, researchers have focused on the theoretical framework of internalization continuum, but they have not yet empirically evaluated the stages of internalization as a continuum. This article presents a new Internalization...

Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields are in high demand. These fields all require sufficient math ability. However, many university students suffer from math anxiety which is detrimental to performance. We conducted an experiment to explore the influence of math anxiety on university students' challenging math problem-solving beha...

The COVID-19 pandemic caused school closures and social isolation, which created both learning and emotional challenges for adolescents. Schools worked hard to move classes online, but less attention was paid to whether students were cogni-tively and emotionally ready to learn effectively in a virtual environment. This study focused on online learn...

The need to administrate experiments online is rising due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which brings both challenges and opportunities. However, the field of online experimental research design is still in its infancy. This case study elaborates on the experiences and decision-making process that guided an online experimental research project. First, t...

Fitting item response theory (IRT) models using the generalized mixed logistic regression model (GLMM) has become more popular in large-scale assessment because GLMM allows combining complicated multilevel structures (i.e., students are nested in classrooms which are nested in schools) with IRT measurement models. However, the estimation accuracy o...

This study challenged the widely spread assumption that East Asian students are more persistent than their American counterparts because they are more likely to believe that success results from eforts rather than innate ability. The examination was conducted through comparing the impact of three factors— internalization of learning motivation, lea...

Students’ academic persistence is a critical component of effective online learning. Promoting students’ academic persistence could potentially alleviate learning loss or drop-out, especially during challenging time like the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous research indicated that different emotions and autonomy support could all influence students’ aca...
Article
While hierarchical linear modeling is often used in social science research, the assumption of normally distributed residuals at the individual and cluster levels can be violated in empirical data. Previous studies have focused on the effects of nonnormality at either lower or higher level(s) separately. However, the violation of the normality assu...

This paper focuses on the academic performance of international students and explores the direct (academic performance, learning strategies, and adjustment) and indirect factors (psychological and cultural factors) that associate with it. The indirect factors affect academic performance through the mediator: adjustment. The purpose of this paper is...

Driven by globalization, cultural intelligence (CQ) has become a critical element for human communication. The increasing international student population also calls for an in-depth understanding of CQ, which incorporates metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioral dimensions that could promote international learning and working performa...

The trend of high average academic performance of Chinese students on international large-scale assessments has drawn the attention of researchers and practitioners. In this paper, we explored motivation as a fundamental factor that contributes to academic performance in order to explore the degree to which differences in students' learning motivat...

Purpose In line with a recent call for side effects research in education, this article aims to synthesize the major concerns that have been raised in the literature concerning large-scale assessments (LSAs) in education. Design/Approach/Methods The researchers endeavored to complete a deep review of the literature on LSAs to synthesize the report...

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) predicted this number will reach 8 million in 2025 (University of Harvard, 2015). The increasing number of international students promotes incremental studies of this group. The concept of culture intelligence (CQ) was raised by Earley and Ang in 2003, it is the person’s ability to f...

East Asia has some of the highest-performing education systems in the world, which has drawn the attention of the Western countries. However, they are learning the wrong lessons from the top-performing education systems in East Asia. Rather than trying to figure out why East Asia students outperform American students on large-scale assessment, they...
