Soil maps in Ukraine need to be updated as a matter of urgency. They are now more than 30 years old, many are 60 years old. The original mapping was undertaken for other purposes than today’s, and the soils have changed. Apart from all this, systematic errors have been introduced by digitization, geodesic rectification and the attribution of soil c...
Dokuchaev carried out most of his research in Ukraine. His student and friend, Volodymyr Vernadsky, went on to create trans-disciplinary environmental sciences and the concept of Earth as a living organism, famously taken up by James Lovelock. That spring of ideas still flows and the researches captured in this volume are relevant to present-day pr...
The aim of the study was to identify the impact of digital elevation models of different origins on the qualitative characteristics of forecast maps of soil cover or cartograms of agro-production soil groups using predictive modeling technologies. The current situation with large-scale soil cartographic data in Ukraine is analyzed and it is shown t...
For a long time, scientists are researching the soil organic matter (SOM) and soil organic Carbon (SOC). But their
relevance does not diminish because there are importance for scientists as to form databases for simulation and
forecast as use the latest research methods. It is proved that for the verified forecasting and modeling of Carbon cycle...

Knowing the spatial distribution of individual soil taxonomic units is a key factor in man-aging efficient land use not only for agriculture but also for forestry. The use of a comprehensive soil surveys held in past decades and based on fieldwork created the basis for the initial spatial representation of the soil fund structure. However, the spat...
The intensity of transformation of the Biosphere components in recent decades suggests a fundamental change in natural process and trends by anthropogenic, which allowed scientists to select Anthroposphere. The Anthroposphere formed in the time stage, called the Anthropocene. Human health and environmental health must be assessed keeping in mind th...
The organization of monitoring in most countries involves the activities of a number of
organizations, and therefore minimizing the costs of its implementation by introducing the latest
methods of sampling in contaminated zones or soils or other natural formations due to man-made
substances is an urgent and necessary task. Soils are the interface o...
An analysis of the current state of cartographic information about soil cover of Ukraine shows that there are a number of significant problems. This relates to three basic points: their availability and accessibility, rel-evance and accuracy. In particular, large areas of the territory have not yet created large-scale soil maps, espe-cially in the...
The use of resampling of classical orthogonal digital elevation models in hexagonal with a method based on hyperpel and calculate the values of the resulting cells with formulas weighted arithmetic, geometric and harmonic gives quite pleasing results. Statistical analysis shows that the resulting hexagonal and the original digital elevation models...
The main goal of the mathematical experiment was to compare the accuracy of the construction of predicative maps, depending on the type of input data, in particular the soil map and the complete or abbreviated (without definitions by composition of grain size) variants of the cartograms of agro-industrial soil groups. The tasks were solved: by buil...
Modelling enables various sources of information to be integrated in a
GIS. But actuality requires a methodology that can compare existing soils and
ground cover information with natural descriptions of the land surface, identify
errors, specify the limits of scale and definition, determine the effects of erosive
processes and, finally, assemble a...
This book discusses gritty issues that society faces every day: food and water security, environmental services provided by farmers, almost accidentally, and taken for granted by everyone else, the capability of the land to provide our needs today and for the foreseeable future and pollution of soil, air and water. The chapters are grouped in four...
A preliminary geochemical examination of materials from the archaeological sequence at Medzhibozh A reveals evidence of the use of fire. Irregular, dark ochre, ashy circles that look like the remains of hearths were unearthed in 2012 and 2013 in the uppermost artifact-bearing layer associated with episode zv-1 of the Zavadovka stratigraphic layer (...
Soil saturation index and its calculating are demonstrating multicollinear correlations between ecological-geochemical soil state and environmental circumstances. There are wood ecosystems on the research area with Phaeozem, Luvisol, Retisol and Fluvisol. We have also studied the buried soil. Their burials occurred as a result of natural processes...
The point is that investigation of geochemistry and behavior of Lithium in Ukraine's soils is been rather exceptional. We have analyzed the content of Lithium in soils: modern and buried under the ramparts of various ages. The research territory includes Prut-Dniester and Prut-Siret interfluvial. Most often there are Phaeozems (Luvic Phaeozem, or M...

A study of pedochronocatenas which include soils of archaeological sites is a reliable approach to reconstruct environmental changes since the time of the settlements existence. The studied pedochronocatenas include: 1) soils buried under ancient earth ramparts, 2) soils formed on the surface of these ramparts, and 3) natural undisturbed soils loca...
Disaster floods on the Carpathian rivers and surrounding areas as a result of radial
and lateral erosion have predetermined to significant changes in geomorphological levels: the rivers
bottom in some areas deepened to 100 cm or more, the coastline has shifted to 15–20 m, landslide
processes first of all on the shores was invigorated. Due to the...
The objective of the article was to determine the effectiveness of lime of different origin for chemical amelioration of soils and examine its impact on soil functions such as productivity, habitat, regulation of water quality, and the protective buffer biogeocenotic screen. Limy ameliorants were applied in small local field experiment on Luvic Che...
The Storozheve earth rampart displays three soils: the topmost on the surface of the bank, the Cossack soil formed in loess deposited about 18,000 years ago and buried by the building of the bank 350 years ago, and the initial soil in loess. The initial soil is depleted in heavy metals and exhibits silt redistribution, reflecting cool, wet conditio...
