The simplest version of the sub-Gramian method is based on the spectral decomposition of a square \(H_2\) norm of the transfer function. This case applies when a system can be described as an LTI dynamic one and therefore has a corresponding algebraic Lyapunov equation.

About this book:
This book gives readers an overview about technologies that are useful for developments related to Smart Cities.
Some technologies are already available, such for example, as smart meters for electricity and gas in buildings. But there are possibilities to incorporate existing devices into wider networks with other smart devices...

A vehicle telemetry system based on a CAN-bus interface
We consider the robust anisotropic filtering problem for a linear discrete nonstationary system on a finite time interval. We assume that external disturbances acting on the object have anisotropy bounded from above and additionally satisfy two constraints on the moments. Our solution of the filtering problem is based on the boundedness criterion f...
We describe distributed reflexive complex mechanisms of decision-making in a SMART city. These complex mechanisms are a cognitive self-organizing decision support system for development governance. These mechanisms utilize local information from all nearby sensors of city sensors on buildings, sensors on other cars, sensors on pedestrians and some...
The tracking problem for induction motor drives is considered in the paper. The main attention is devoted to the problem of unknown load torque compensation not belonging to the control space. The model of induction motor is considered in the fixed reference frame concerned with the stator. A modification of vector control principle is designed on...
The UK has always been a global leader in the field of transportation. It is now time to be
the global leader in transport systems. This leadership can only be delivered by people
and we must act now to develop the skills and capabilities that will drive growth and help
secure a significant share of the global £900 billion market by 2025.
The ons...
At the present time students perform all experimental courseworks and laboratory exercises when university workshops and laboratories are open. However, there are many situations when students cannot obtain the access to laboratory equipment for reasons, such example, as disability, illness, restrictions on flexibility of working hours of part-time...
Directional antennas have gained immense popularity among researchers working in the area of wireless networks. These antennas help in enhancing the performance of wireless networks through increased spatial reuse, extended communication range, energy efficiency, reduced latency, and communication reliability. Traditional Medium Access Control (MAC...
A mathematical model of viscous fluid flow in the pipeline with the presence of flow across the surface and the narrowing of pipeline section, which is based on a system of Navier-Stokes equations in two-dimensional rectangular region with a special type of boundary conditions has been designed. The geometric configuration of the leakage zone is ta...
The article deals with the problem of traffic control at a large railroad station. We offer the approach and solutions to automate several tasks of operational control at the station. Methods: We studied the problem of planning the shunting work, the design of daily process schedule of station, selection and assembling the routes. Results: The algo...
Due to increasing popularity of Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), research in this area has constantly strived to improve performance of these networks. In this paper Dual Polarized Directional Antenna based Medium Access Control (DPDA-MAC) protocol is presented to enhance the throughput of MANETs. Nodes operating in accordance with DPDA-MAC are cap...
The modelling of a proposed Automotive Driving Simulator (Motion Simulator) based on the Controller Area Network (CAN-bus) is described in this paper. The simulation of the CAN-bus communication was carried out using the Simulink software package and Vehicle Network Toolbox. The Driving Simulator has also been modelled as a 3D multi-body in order t...

Directional communication in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) helps in mitigating the problems of exposed nodes and interference, while providing better spatial reuse. However, use of directional antenna also leads to the problem of deafness. This paper presents a novel method to mitigate deafness in MANETs. In the proposed method, Request To Send (...
Routing is an essential part of data exchange in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs). A protocol that can discover multiple routes from source to destination can support reliable routing of information in MANETs. However, a reliable routing protocol alone cannot enhance performance of MANETs. Nodes in MANETs also experience the problems of interference...
This letter proposes an elegant 1-D search technique to compute 2-D DOA estimation using the MUSIC algorithm for the case of a single source. Unlike a conventional planar array configuration for 2-D DOA estimation, this letter involves a linear array with alternate elements orthogonally polarized. The validity of the proposed analysis has been esta...
Ongoing technological progress in measurement systems triggered the development of an innovative, hands-on teaching program to help students toward a fuller understanding of recent changes in the field. This paper presents a lab project that links theoretical principles with the practical issues of signal conditioning systems. This is accomplished...

Spurious-free Dynamic Range (SFDR) of frequency sources such as local oscillators in radio has a profound effect on the minimum signal strength that can be detected. Greater the level of unwanted spurs the more difficult it is to detect an incoming signal in the presence of existing interferers and minimum signal/noise ratio at the demodulator inpu...
The continuous evolution and development of the world in which we live in vis-à-vis the entire transport industry is constantly demanding endless and rapid advancement in vehicle performance and efficiency. This crucial and imperative need in our transportation system is not only important but also extremely essential for the present and future of...
Adaptive control can provide desirable behavior of a process even though the process parameters are unknown or may vary with time. Conventional adaptive control requires that the speed of adaptation must be more rapid than that of the parameter changes. However, in practice, problems do arise when this is not the case. For example, when fault occur...
Convergence of Internet Protocol based networks is a necessary requirement today. One important aspect of convergence is seamless integration of wired- wireless network. Internetworking of wired-wireless network is important from Quality of Service (QoS) perspective. Providing a wired network support to an overloaded wireless network for load shari...

This paper presents a theoretical as well as simulation model to measure throughput of Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN) at various stages of load sharing. We develop a queue based analytic model which allows us to calculate relative throughput of the multi-gateway WMN. The model is used to calculate WMN throughput improvement in three cases. The first...

Synthesis of linear distributed systems with centralized and decentralized control is considered in this paper. The conditions of asymptotic stability of open-loop and closed-loop control systems are obtained. It is shown in this paper that decentralized control provides asymptotic stability of a closed-loop distributed system if the strength of in...
