Should items with less than .5 commonalties in EFA be dropped despite high factor loadings BEFORE going towards CFA?

During the process of scale validation ( translation), I got two factors where as the original scale has 5 factors( after EFA, CFA).
Q1. What could be possible reasons of getting 2 factors instead of 5 factors( as in original scale)
Q2. Where can I cite this that during adaptation process, factors may be reduced.

I am comparing high and low scores of stress levels. Can there be "unequal" sample sizes in conducting independent samples t-test?
I have N=160 on low stress levels ; and N=230 on high stress levels.

Now that EFA shows uni-dimensionality with only one factor extracted and CFA conducted ;then what shall be next steps for the following in scale development/construction.
