Introduction
The catfish genus Parauchenoglanis comprises nine species. Of these, only P. ngamensis, occurs in Southern Africa, originally described from the Okavango basin, where it is a species of economic importance to low-income populations. However, differences in colour pattern for specimens from outside the Okavango basin have been noted. This study uses an integrative taxonomic approach to determine whether P. ngamensis is a single widely distributed species or a species complex.

The Zambezi grunter, Parauchenoglanis ngamensis, is currently distributed across four (sub)basins in southern and south-central Africa, namely the Okavango, upper Zambezi, Kwanza, and Kasai. The present study used a combination of molecular (barcoding), colour pattern, and other morphological data to explore the possible existence of hidden species...
Parauchenoglanis zebratus sp. nov. is a new species endemic to the Upper Lualaba in the Upper Congo Basin. It is distinguished from all its congeners known from the Congo Basin and adjacent basins by the presence of (1) distinctive dark‐brown or black vertical bars on the lateral side of the body, at least for specimens about ≥120 mm LS, (2) a broa...
A southwestern Indian Ocean (SWIO) percoid fish Serranus knysnaensis Gilchrist, 1904, was long synonymised with the comber, Serranus cabrilla (Linnaeus, 1758), from the eastern Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean and Black Sea. However, when the species was brought out of synonymy by Heemstra & Heemstra (2004), reasons for this decision were not given. T...
The taxonomic status of the widely distributed Indo-Pacific undulated moray eel, Gymnothorax undulatus, is revised using morphological and genetics features. Ninety-seven specimens previously identified as G. undulatus were examined and their mitochondrial COI and 16S rRNA genes were analysed. The multivariate analysis of eight morphometric charact...
