We present a key to the three species of the genus Phelister Marseul, 1854 (Coleoptera, Histeridae), occurring in Cuba along with diagnoses and habitus drawings. All three species are newly recorded for the cadaveric fauna in Cuba. In addition, we address the taxonomic composition and distribution of the genus Phelister in the country. Phelister co...

We here describe Liodessus lacunaviridis sp. n. (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae, Bidessini), collected from small mossy puddles at the edge of the Laguna Verde, Boyaca, Colombia. Within Liodessus Guignot, 1939 the new species is well characterized by its darker coloration, more elongate oval habitus, and the shape of the median lobe in ventral view, which...

The diving beetle Rhantus blancasi Guignot, 1955 (Coleoptera, Dytiscidae, Colymbetinae) was until now only known from older reports from Pasco region, Peru. Here, we provide new distributional data from Cuzco and Junin regions, habitat information, and illustrations of diagnostic characters for the easy identification of the species.

We review the Peruvian Hydaticus Leach, 1817 (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) and describe Hydaticus panguana sp. nov. from Huánuco Department. The Colombian species of the diving beetle genus Liodessus Guignot, 1939 are revised. Liodessus bogotensis Guignot, 1953 is re-described. Three higher altitude species are new to science: Liodessus azufralis sp. n., L. quillacinga sp. n. and L. quimbaya sp. n. We also introduce two new subspecies, L. quillacinga cochaensis ssp. n. and L. quillacing...

Cuba has one of the richest diving beetles species diversity in the Caribbean islands. However, Cuban Dytiscidae remain scarcely studied, and there is need to identify those species and habitats that urgently require effective conservation actions. Here we aim to identify the threatened taxa of the family Dytiscidae in Cuba according to their degre...

The third instar of the Antilles endemic species Pachydrus obniger (CHEVROLAT, 1863) (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) is described and illustrated. This species has turned out as very similar to P. globosus (AUBÉ, 1838) in terms of larval morphology and it is postulated that P. obniger might represent a junior synonym of P. globosus.
