With the widespread use of AI, understanding the behavior of intelligent agents and robots is crucial to guarantee successful human-agent collaboration since it is not straightforward for humans to understand an agent's state of mind. Recent empirical studies have confirmed that explaining a system's behavior to human users fosters the latter's acc...
Intersections are at the core of congestion in urban areas. After the end of the Second World War, the problem of intersection management has benefited from a growing body of advances to address the optimization of the traffic lights’ phase splits, timing, and offset. These contributions have significantly improved traffic safety and efficiency in...
Background: Despite the advancement in eXplainable Artificial Intelligence, the explanations provided by model-agnostic predictors still call for improvements (i.e., lack of accurate descriptions of predictors’ behaviors). Contribution: We present a tool for Deep Explanations and Rule Extraction (DEXiRE) to approximate rules for Deep Learning model...

The technology of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) is a hot topic of transportation systems, especially regarding platooning and the interaction with other road users. Considering traffic safety, many studies have been devoted to the exchange of information among various road users, such as CAVs and pedestrians. In a platooning scenario, whe...
Nowadays, with the emergence of connected objects and cars, road traffic systems become more and more complex and exhibit hierarchical behaviors at several levels of detail. The multilevel modeling approach is generally appropriate to represent traffic from several perspectives. However, few works have been interested in multilevel traffic modeling...
Transportation in controlled industrial sites provides a conducive environment for technologies of Connected Automated Vehicles (CAV). Recent studies show that safe and efficient road sharing between CAVs and pedestrians is challenging. Besides safety issues, a significant loss of time occurs when pedestrians cross a stream of CAVs. Currently, many...
Multi-agent systems can be considered a natural paradigm when modeling various transportation systems, whose management involves solving hard, dynamic, and distributed allocation problems. Such problems have been studied for decades, and various solutions have been proposed. However, even the most straightforward resource allocation mechanisms lead...

Emphasizing the need for transparency and explainability of resource allocation decisions in ODT systems to be understandable by humans and move toward a more controllable resource allocation. We propose in this preliminary work a multi-agent architecture and general implementation guidelines towards meeting these requirements.
Quality of Experience (QoE) is defined as the measure of end-user satisfaction with the service. Existing works addressing QoE-management rely on a binary vision of end-user satisfaction. This vision has been criticized by the growing empirical evidence showing that QoE is rather a degree. This article aims to go beyond the binary vision and propos...
Generally during the execution of the daily schedule, there is a mismatch between the plan and the reality. Faced with unexpected events, which affect the schedule, individuals need to reschedule their decisions. In such situations, time is an important factor when making a rescheduling decision, as people feel time pressure because of the time thr...

Cocoa beans are vital for the chocolate industries, with some African countries (Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon) currently having 72% of the worldwide cocoa production. However, cocoa cultivation faces many threats such as diseases and insects. The most damaging insect that attacks cocoa plant in West Africa is the mirid. The previous wor...

The communication between robots/agents and humans is a challenge, since humans are typically not capable of understanding the agent's state of mind.
To overcome this challenge, this paper relies on recent advances in the domain of eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to trace the decisions of the agents, increase the human's understandabilit...
This paper presents an initial design concept and specification of a civilian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) management simulation system that focuses on explainability for the human-in-the-loop control of semi-autonomous UAVs. The goal of the system is to facilitate the operator intervention in critical scenarios (e.g. avoid safety issues or financ...
Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are contributing to a broad set of domains. Hello,
I would like to ask about parametric testing, please.
I am doing a test with the help of some participants. The participants watch a simulation and then fill in a questionnaire based on 5-points Likert responses. The participants are divided into 3 groups with different simulation settings. I have two questions please:
Q1: What is the minimum number of participants I need in each group to run parametric tests? Is it 30 per group?
Q2: What is the most suitable parametric test for Likert responses if I am to evaluate the responses per question.
Thanks in advance for the help.
eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) is increasingly getting attention in the domain of Human-Computer Interaction in general and Human-Robot Interaction in particular.
What do you think is the best way for a robot to explain itself to humans? using text, sound, visualization, etc.?
Thanks for sharing your insights.
Hello,
Some agent-based simulation frameworks support the implementation of Belief–Desire–Intention (BDI) agent models directly or through libraries.
I would like to ask what is the best agent-based simulation framework to implement BDI agents?
Thanks & Regards,
