Introduction
I am a scientist, writer, educator, and speaker with a deep fascination for soils, the organisms that inhabit them, and the community of people who study them. My research lies at the intersection of soil biology, disturbance ecology, and biogeochemistry where I explore the role of soil fauna in ecosystem scale processes in response to global change. My current research focuses on how fires affect soil food webs, organic matter, and carbon cycling. I also explore our relationship to soil through writing and art and seek to strengthen our connection to soils through field-based education. When I am not doing science, I enjoy reading books, runn
