The fire risk of cables constantly changes over time and is affected by the materials and working conditions of cables. To address its internal timing property, it is essential to use a dynamic analysis method to assess cable fire risk. Meanwhile, data uncertainty resulting in the deviation of risk values must also be considered in the risk assessm...
Robust design is one of the main tools employed by engineers for the facilitation of the design of high-quality processes. However, most real-world processes invariably contend with external uncontrollable factors, often denoted as outliers or contaminated data, which exert a substantial distorting effect upon the computed sample mean. In pursuit o...
The K-means algorithm, widely used in cluster analysis, is a centroid-based clustering method known for its high efficiency and scalability. However, in realistic situations, the operating environment is susceptible to contamination issues caused by outliers and distribution departures, which may lead to clustering results from K-means that are dis...
In the early response to large-scale epidemics, it generally leads to an imbalance in emergency relief resources among different regions. In this sense, these emergency relief resources need to be wholly reallocated to balance supply and demand, which can be realized by a collaborative emergency relief resource reallocation process with the maximiz...
This paper consists of two parts. The first part of the paper is to propose an explicit robust estimation method for the regression coefficients in simple linear regression based on the power-weighted repeated medians technique that has a tuning constant for dealing with the trade-offs between efficiency and robustness. We then investigate the lowe...
Large-scale epidemics impose significant burdens globally and cause an imbalance of medical supplies among different regions owing to the dissimilarly and unevenly distributed prevalence of the infection. Along with rebalancing the limited medical supplies to meet the demand and supply requirements, ensuring that the supplies are allocated to suppo...
The natural gas distribution system is made up of an extensive network of pipelines
and some equipment such as regulators, valves, filters, meters and converters that
require maintenance to maintain operation and identify any gas leaks in advance.
The risk analysis process is widely used in the gas industries to locate faults in operations and proc...
With the advent and development of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, manufacturing modes have changed and numerous newly complicated and integrated village-level industrial parks have emerged in the Southeast of China, where several enterprises are gathered in the same multistory building. The number of floors and surrounding enterprises can have an impact on...
Electric vehicle (EV) fire accidents are caused by multiple factors, including the traffic conditions, parking environment and firefighting facilities, and are a typical public safety issue in cities. Owing to the lack of accurate and quick estimation methods for the EV fire analysis in roadside parking scenarios and their impacts, this study appli...
In the new-type clustered industrial park, the closer distance between enterprises leads to risk aggregation, and the layout of enterprises affects the safety and economy of the park. However, previous studies have often paid insufficient attention to safety, and few studies have considered park profits. To address this issue, a bi-level three-dime...
After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the naturally dissimilar prevalence of infection resulted in a growing imbalance between supply and demand for medical staff. Rebalancing the medical staff seems a pressing task following the uncertain environment. However, once the collected data are contaminated, the optimal solution obtained through t...
Cable overload is one of the most critical contributors to early cable fires. This study proposes a hybrid Bayesian network (BN)-based fire risk analysis model, to investigate the evolution of overload-induced early cable fire risks. In particular, the fire risk transmission paths caused by cable overload are reported, considering the critical fact...
The continuous-space single- and multi-facility location problem has attracted much attention in previous studies. This study focuses on determining the globally optimal facility locations for two- and higher-dimensional continuous-space facility location problems when the Manhattan distance is considered. Before we propose the exact method, we sta...
To determine the optimal warehouse location, it is usually assumed that the collected data are uncontaminated. However, this assumption can be easily violated due to the uncertain environment and human error in disaster response, which results in the biased estimation of the optimal warehouse location. In this study, we investigate this possibility...
In the aftermath of large-scale natural disasters, supply shortage and inequitable distribution cause various losses, hindering humanitarian supply chains’ performance. The optimal decisions are difficult due to the complexity arising from the multi-period post-disaster consideration, uncertainty of supplies, hierarchal decision levels and conflict...
Multi-commodity rebalancing plays a critical role before and during the attack of large-scale disasters. In practice, some relief centers can be out of reach from the ground for vehicles due to the road disruption.
Accordingly, alternative transportation systems are essential to maximize fairness and minimize the total transportation time, simultan...
After a large-scale disaster occurred, medical service centers are needed to provide appropriate medical treatments for injured patients. To support those medical service centers, a warehouse should be set up to stock medical supplies that can be distributed to medical service centers in different quantities in multiple periods. However, the delive...
Following the occurrence of disasters, various commodities are distributed to pre-determined relief centers. Owing to the high-level demand uncertainty, initial multi-commodity distribution strategy may be imperfect, resulting in the unexpected cases that some relief centers have surplus commodities while others’ needs cannot be fully satisfied. Co...
After disasters occurred, many refugees have to suffer a lot. To relieve this detrimental situation, various commodities are distributed to the pre-determined warehouses. However, the initial multi-commodity distribution may be imperfect, which results in some warehouses having surplus commodities compared to other unmet warehouses. Hence, it is ne...
In planning for a large-scale disaster, potential relief centers to accommodate evacuees need to be identified. The quantities of emergency commodities are prepared and stocked at relief centers in advance for possible disasters. In the event of a disaster, due to the different disaster severities and uncertain environment, some relief centers inev...
After a large-scale disaster hits, a number of relief centers for accommodating evacuees should be determined and various commodities should be delivered to those relief centers to support evacuees’ lives. However, due to the great demand and uncertain environment, relief centers may be still lacking in commodities but with different shortages (sto...
After a large-scale disaster, the emergency commodity should be distributed to relief centers. However, the initial commodity distribution may be unbalanced due to the incomplete information and uncertain environment. It is necessary to rebalance the emergency commodity among relief centers. Traffic congestion is an important factor to delay delive...
After a natural or man-made large-scale disaster occurs, it is a great danger to the residents who are living in the affected area. Evacuees in the (potential) impacted area need to be assembled at pick-up points and evacuated within the specified time by using vehicles that transport them to the safe shelters, potentially multiple times. It is nec...
Reverse logistics is convincingly one of the most efficient solutions to reduce environmental pollution and waste of resources by capturing and recovering the values of the used products. Many studies have been developed for decision-making at tactical, practical, and operational levels of the reverse supply chain. However, many enterprises face a...
After the large-scale disasters, commodities should be distributed to the predetermined relief centers which are used to accommodate evacuees. However, because the initial multi-commodity distribution may be not working on the actual disaster environment, some relief centers may have surplus commodities, whereas some other relief centers are still...
Bicycle-sharing systems are a new type of transportation service that provides bicycles for shared use; they allow users to rent a bicycle at one station, ride it, and return it to another station in the same city. A predictive model is needed to forecast the rental demand to improve user satisfaction and increase profits. To effectively predict th...
When a large-scale disaster occurs, a set of relief centers should be determined to accommodate evacuees and a variety of multi-commodity should be distributed to these relief centers to provide basic life support. Because the multi-commodity distribution at peacetime may be imperfect and unbalanced, the surplus commodities in some relief centers c...
