Modelling walking distance enables the observation of non-linearities in hedonic property pricing of accessibility to greenspace. We test a penalized spline spatial error model (PS-SEM), which has two distinctive features. First, the PS-SEM controls for the presence of a spatially autocorrelated error term. Second, the PS-SEM allows for continuous...

Is people’s willingness to implement their fairness views on a group dependent on how many in the group share their view? We designed a new experiment to answer this question. Spectator participants were asked how many other participants they believe share their view of whether it is fair to redistribute income in a work task. They were then given...

Allocation of public budgets requires deliberate analyses of the costs and benefits of alternative budget usages, which must be made using the same metric. The use of monetary term is the standard metric in government budgeting and is ideal for cost-benefit analysis. This paper systematically searched and reviewed literature on monetary valuation o...

Increasing recognition of interdependencies of the health of humans, other organisms and ecosystems, and of their importance to socio-ecological systems, necessitates application of integrative concepts such as One Health and EcoHealth. These concepts open new perspectives for research and practice but also generate confusion and divergent opinion,...

p>Urbanization is a global trend, and consequently the quality of urban environments is increasingly important for human health and wellbeing. Urban life-style is typically associated with low physical activity and sometimes with high mental stress, both contributing to an increasing burden of diseases. Nature-based solutions that make effective us...

The SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting Technical Recommendations discuss a number of potential uses and applications of ecosystem accounting information. Using Oslo municipality as an example we discuss what types of monetary valuation methods could provide decision-support to different municipal planning and policy needs. We discuss the SNA ac...

Food labels help consumers choose products in line with their food attitudes and preferences. As the market for farmed seafood grows, it is important for producers to meet consumer demand for credence characteristics like safety, nutrition, origin, and sustainability. Consumer preferences for credence characteristics are heterogeneous, and stakehol...

Urban green spaces (UGS) are increasingly acknowledged for their importance for the well-being of urban populations. However, studies are lacking the consideration of the demand and use of UGS by different population groups and connecting UGS with social infrastructure. In an era of worldwide urbanization and ageing, this European study sheds light...

Extensive research has demonstrated that urban nature has positive effects to human health. Urban nature has been found to restore cognitive fatigue and to help with a direction of focus. Positive effects of urban nature have been found on mental disorders such as ADHD, dementia, and depression. Therapeutic effects of horticulture have also been di...
Presentation

In this talk, I present selected research on urban nature’s effects to public health, and proposed needs for future research. I also gave a preview of an on-going research on urban nature and care facilities for elderly people.

This article confirms that China’s economic sanction in the form of restricting salmon imports from Norway was in retaliation for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to a Chinese dissident. By combining personal accounts of stakeholders interviewed in the Norway–China salmon trade with an examination of trade data, there is strong evidence that link...

Consumers prefer ecolabeled products. However, little is known about the effects of ecolabels when consumers are simultaneously exposed to negative environmental information about the ecolabeled products. We conducted a stated choice experiment in France with eight types of fish that were either ecolabeled or unlabeled. Four treatments with differe...

This thesis makes four contributions on the economic analysis of fisheries in cold-water corals contained waters. The first contribution is the proposal of theoretical framework on the links among cold-water corals, fauna fish species, fisheries, and public. The interactions among these four parts are illustrated in the framework. The second contri...

To investigate what urban qualities or attributes of location that are preferred in Oslo, by including measurements of location of housing with consideration given to urban form. Using measures for location that corresponds better with consumer perception we are aiming to get results that both is in line with hedonic modelling theory and communicates better to planners and policy makers.
