Introduction
My research focuses on organization and functionning of mental lexicon in multilinguals. I’m specifically interested in the cognitive processes involved in language switching with people bi-multilinguals. These aspects implies to understand the mechanisms of inhibition involved during language or task switching, as well as executive functions. For this purpose, I'm using several tools (ERPs, Eye-tracking) during tasks involving multilingual language processing.

In this study, we compared the effects of two media (Interactive Whiteboards and Paper) on both expository and narrative texts reading comprehension among 5th grade children of primary school. Two texts were constructed, according to the same controlled hierarchical structure. Comprehension was assessed by a multiple-choice questionnaire including...

Purpose:The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of explanatory texts characteristics on comprehension performances in children from 2nd to 9th grade. Method: Several metrics have been applied to 40 explanatory texts, accounting for length, complexity and age accuracy. Children were asked to read an age-appropriate text, and answer questi...

An original double-masked translation priming study investigates how trilingual translation trainees process their non-dominant languages (L2 and L3) and how these languages influence one another. We recruited 24 French (L1)- English (L2)- Spanish (L3) unbalanced trilinguals to perform lexical decision tasks in their L2 and L3. Target words were pr...

The present behavioral study aimed to examine the impact of language controlexpertise on two domain-general control processes, i.e. active inhibition of competing rep-resentations and overcoming of inhibition. We compared how Simultaneous Interpreters(SI) and Highly Proficient Bilinguals—two groups assumed to differ in language controlcapacity—perfo...

The present behavioral study aimed to examine the impact of language control expertise on two domain-general control processes, i.e. active inhibition of competing representations and overcoming of inhibition. We compared how Simultaneous Interpreters (SI) and Highly Proficient Bilinguals—two groups assumed to differ in language control capacity—pe...

The present study aims to investigate how trilinguals process their two non-dominant languages and how those languages influence one another, as well as the relative importance of the dominant language on their processing. With this in mind, 24 French (L1)- English (L2)- and Spanish (L3)-unbalanced trilinguals, deemed equivalent in their L2 and L3...

In the present electroencephalographical study, we asked to which extent executive control processes are shared by both the language and motor domain. The rationale was to examine whether executive control processes whose efficiency is reinforced by the frequent use of a second language can lead to a benefit in the control of eye movements, i.e. a...

The usability of interactive whiteboards versus computers was evaluated on three dimensions (visibility, legibility and comprehension) in the secondary-school pupils. The visibility assessment consisted in detecting a visual stimulus varying in luminance using a staircase procedure, legibility was assessed with a target-search task, and we administ...

Cinema is in part a reflection of our society and, in these times of cultural mix, it is more and more common to find different language communities appearing on-screen together. Thus, it is not unusual to have to process (voluntarily or not) more than one language throughout the day. From a cognitive point of view, language switching is widely stu...

We compared the effects of two media (paper vs. computer) on reading comprehension and memorization among students in their third or fourth year of secondary school. To assess comprehension, we constructed and validated a text with a carefully controlled hierarchical structure, accompanied by a questionnaire containing three types of questions (sur...

The aim of the present study is to examine language switching effects in lexical decisions (participants have to decide if the presented letter string is a word or not, independently of the language) involving one, two or three languages. Participants were 18 unbalanced late trilinguals, with French as a native language (L1), English and Spanish as...

This study aims to examine language dominance and language switching effects in a series of monolingual and multilingual lexical decisions in which participants have to decide if the presented letter string is a word or not, regardless of language. Event-related potentials were recorded during the visual presentation of words in the three languages of French-English-Spanish trilinguals. Participants monitored a mixed list of unrelated non-cognate words in the three languages while performing a semantic categorization task. Words in L1 generated earlier N400 peak amplitudes than both L2 and L3...

The aim of this experiment is to determine to what extent the mechanism of inhibition elicited by a code switching could be modulated by the degree of training of bilinguals in this specific switching activity. Bilingualism and its implication in terms of language processing and human memory is one of the most important topics nowadays in neurolinguistics. However, many questions remain about the abilities of bilinguals to process two languages and to switch from one language to another. In the present research, we examined masked translation and repetiti...

French learners at university meet difficulties in the comprehension of oral English. Being in a formal context of language learning, they need to develop language awareness to compensate for insufficient exposure to the English language. To meet the students’ needs, data was collected in order to pinpoint the main errors made by French learners in...

The number of multilinguals (people speaking more than two languages) has greatly increased over the two last decades, in part due to policies of exchange between countries and in part due to the migration of populations. Over this same period the number of scientific interrogations into bilingualism has also increased. Most of the studies have foc...
