Multifractals have proven to be a valuable tool in image analysis applications and remote sensing (RS). They can be used for image segmentation, texture analysis, and classification. This study explores their applicability to change detection. We present a new approach to image texture description based on the calculation of a spatialized Hölder ex...

Hyperspectral images provide complex information about the Earth’s surface due to their very high spectral resolution (hundreds of spectral bands per pixel). Effective processing of such a large amount of data requires dedicated analysis methods. Therefore, this research applies, for the first time, the degree of multifractality to the global descr...

The coordination of humanitarian relief is always difficult due to a lack of data required for management and planning. Remote sensing imagery can be an important source of information about the in-situ situation, notably, no-access areas. Scenarios include situation awareness after natural disasters or military conflicts, damage assessment, or mon...

Hyperspectral data provides huge amount of detailed information about spectral properties of the objects. In the era of fast data volume enlargement, it is necessary to develop methods and algorithms which are capable for information extraction from Big Data. On the other hand, plenty of phenomena observed on Earth reveal (multi)fractal character o...

In this letter, we apply the multifractal formalism to land cover change detection on very high spatial resolution data. Specifically, multifractal spectra are determined and, with modifications, are used as an initial general indicator of change on the subsets of IKONOS and Pleiades images. Next, we calculate Hölder exponents for each pixel in the...

Project
The main objective of this project is related to the presented issues and concerns the development of multifractal description of remote sensing images, as well as the evaluation of its applicability in the selected aspects of processing and analyzing of satellite and aerial optical data. More precisely, in the frame of the project we are planning: (I) change detection on high and very high spatial resolution satellite images; (II) analysis of image information capacity and detection of absorption bands on hyperspectral data; (III) classification of the selected land cover forms. We are planning to perform our analysis on large optical data sets, acquired by satellite and aerial sensors. Moreover, we want to compare the usefulness of multifractal formalism with mathematical morphology. Project founded by Polish National Science Centre (NCN) through grant 2016/23/B/ST10/01151
Archived project
This project was supported by the Polish National Science Centre (NCN) and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) through Grant NN 526 1568 40.
