This project will support one of the first, if not the first, comprehensive design and deployment of an avant-gardist Transportation and Logistics (TL) system, and define and study new problem classes in stochastic combinatorial optimization, including bin packing, routing, and network design, revenue management, and demand forecasting. It will define new models and algorithms and tailor them for the application at hand. By intensively and dynamically taking into account the flow of data and learning from it to yield useful information, the proposed methodology will anticipate and integrate the evolution and variation of internal and external factors (e.g., shipper & carrier requests and behaviour) yielding more comprehensive and robust decisions and a more agile TL system.
