Mixed-valence polyoxovanadates (POV) constitute a family of polyoxometalates whose electronic properties are still unclear. Polyoxovanadoborates (POVB) a subfamily of POV, show different electronic and magnetic properties respect of those from the POV. On the interpretation of the electronic spectra of these compounds only three bands in the 350 to...

A new family of chloroquinolinate lanthanoid complexes of formula A+[Ln(5,7Cl2q)4]-, with Ln = Y3+, Tb3+ and Dy3+ and A+ = Na+, NEt4+ and K0.5(NEt4)0.5+ is studied, both in bulk and as thin films. Several members are found to present single-molecule magnetic behavior in bulk. Interestingly, the sodium salts can be sublimed in high vacuum conditions...

Infections in confined environments can spread by direct contact, contaminated surfaces, and airborne transmission. This is critical in prison facilities, where cleaning and sanitary conditions are inadequate. An alternative is the development of antimicrobial surfaces. A new antimicrobial coating was developed by incorporating copper microparticle...

The disposition of the frustrated triangular FeIII units and their counter-anions in the crystal lattice cause a change in the magnetic response, inducing the appearance of slow relaxation of the magnetization.

Here we report the first example of nanoMIL-100 particles modified with monomeric cyclodextrin derivatives of different length by exploiting strong interactions between non-saturated iron trimers at the external surface and carboxylate functionalities located at the end of biocompatible and flexible linkers of cyclodextrins. The main results reveal...

The plasticity of the coordination chemistry of Lanthanoid ions (LnIII) has allow the design of novel coordination compounds with slow relaxation of the magnetization since the first Single Ion Magnet (SIMs) was reported by Ishikawa, who used the phthalocyaninate ligand to make a “sandwich type” complex. The coordination chemistry has allowed the p...

With the aim of identifying new cation-phenolate complexes, we herein investigated the reactivity of pyrogallol (H3pgal) with vanadium salts. A trimetallic anionic complex was identified, and found to be formed under a broad set of reaction conditions. This complex, with the formula V3O3(pgal)33-, consists of three oxovanadium(IV) units connected t...

The first family of hybrid mononuclear organic-inorganic lanthanoid complexes is reported, based on [PW11O39]7– and 1,10- phenathroline ligands. This hybrid approach causes a dramatic improvement of the relaxation time (x 1000) with a decrease of the optimal field while maintaining the Ueff of the inorganic analogues.
