The digital era in which we live hosts at least four generations according to the mainstream social generational classification that has been adopted worldwide. This classification allows us to recognize ourselves as members of a particular generation corresponding to a span of time. However, the milestones and shared historical events that glue a...
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, digital interactions ceased to be “just another form of communication”; indeed, they became the only means of social interaction, mediated and driven by information and communication technologies (ICTs). Consequently, working in a digital context switched from being a phenomenon to be studied to the primary means of so...
Communication research is a fundamental issue, inspired by Christian values at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE). The strain between practitioners and academics of the field dims through communication research. It provides mutual rewards when research comprises teaching, learning, and performing in situated contexts and, systematic...
From health care to education, the affordances of augmented reality (AR) have been reported from countless experiences worldwide. While virtual environments refer to synthetic environments, AR superimposes digital 2D objects or 3D models in the physical world. This paper discusses two AR experiences with hijacking murals in two different locations...

University crush pages are a type of informal user-ended media in which a subjective turn overflows these communication channels, where facts and data seem of less importance than feelings, introspection, and action. This study aims to understand how participation in these pages actually “crushes” institutional and hegemonic power. It questions how...

Community outreach: a best practice proposal
The essential functions of higher education are teaching, research and linkage with the community. However, the latter and its bonds with research and teaching, tend to be the great absentees in the different academic areas; the first two functions prevail over linkage with the community, despite the fac...
Social imaginaries refer not to something unreal or fictitious existing only in the mind of an individual, but to the shared frameworks within which people organise their collective social world. In the ubiquitous presence of the internet and the extended use of information and communication technologies (ICTs), market-oriented globalisation imagin...

There are unfathomable barriers to access technologies for multi-platform interaction
projects that allow social dialogue and its praxis –in the freireanii sense of reflection and
action– on the sidelines of the culture industry. Transmedia storytelling urges for connection and digital convergence. On the one hand, it takes for granted stable inter...

Mobile learning or M-learning, regarded as a specific field of electronic learning, is considered to stem from the affordances of computer-mediated communication. In this way, it fosters connection and interaction “on the move”. M-learning benefits from the ubiquity of information and communication technologies (ICTs), consequently it is not bounde...

"Indigenous and traditional peoples in Ecuador are demanding that shrimp aquaculture companies be penalized for seizing mangrove areas. The recent Decree 1391 completely ignores current legislation, and rewards the shrimp aquaculture industry that has destroyed the mangroves and deprived local communities of their sources of life and livelihood."

I am a PhD student using qualitative research methodology. I am collecting web-mediated data from webpages and social media (Twitter / Facebook), to analyse in Nvivo 10. However, I need to edit the captured information and Nvivo doesn't allow me to do this. Any tips and suggestions will be appreciated.
I am interested on how social imaginaries can emerge from the web-mediated discouse of third sector organizations and will like to follow their social media. Shall I create a new profile for myself just for research purposes, or will that be perceived as "hiding" myself and being dishonest with the organizations followed? What do you think about this?
