Introduction
My work lies at the intersection of Environmental Economics, Human Geography, and Rural Sociology applied to the forest and agriculture sectors. I use both qualitative and quantitative tools in three main fields of research: (i) stakeholder preferences and consumer behaviour analysis in natural resource management and agro-forestry production models, (ii) evaluation of cultural and intangible ecosystem services, (iii) social innovation brokerage and multi-actor engagement.

Forest intangible values (e.g., emotions, aesthetics, and spirituality) are key nonmaterial values supporting human well-being. However, their evaluation is far from trivial, as they are intertwined with people's individual values and beliefs. The aim of this paper is to explore which participatory methods can serve best to map and assess the emoti...

The development of societies, including spiritual development, is closely connected to forests. The larger interrelations among changing societies, transforming forest landscapes, and evolving spiritual values related to forests have yet to be extensively considered. Addressing this research gap is important to avoid the neglect of spiritual values...

Social innovation (SI) impacts are long-term changes that affect different dimensions of territorial capital (i.e., economy, society, environment, governance) for the territory in which SI occurs. Yet, systematic empirical evidence and theoretically sound assessments of the impacts of SI are scarce. This paper aims to fill the gap and assess the di...

Despite the growing interest in social innovation (SI) in agriculture, the literature lacks validated tools for evaluating such initiatives. This paper provides an empirical application of the evaluation approach developed within the H2020 SIMRA project to a pilot experience conducted in a rural area of Southern Italy. The value added by this case...

Sacred forests are an integral component of the mountainous cultural landscape of northern Greece, hypothesized to be the result of both ecological processes and site-specific forest management regimes through strict religious prohibition. These practices acted as constraints on natural forest development by suppressing understory growth, while pro...

In fire-prone areas such the Mediterranean basin, wildfire risk means a societal challenge. Governments in modern welfare states have generally addressed it through a “zero fire policy”, focusing on suppression and professionalization. Such approach provides security to local populations, who in turn may detach from the socio-ecologic phenomenon of...
