Proiectul de cercetare “Monitorizarea reflectării violenţei în familie în presa scrisă din România” realizat de Centrul Parteneriat pentru Egalitate în 2004-2005 a vizat analiza reprezentării violenței în familie în mass media din România. Obiectivele cercetării au fost: identificarea și descrierea modalităţilor de acoperire a fenomenelor de violenţă în familie în ziarele centrale din România; explicitarea şi realizarea unor tipologii ale mediatizării fenomenului de violenţă în familie în ziarele centrale; identificarea unor tendinţe (manifeste sau latente) în prezentarea de către ziarele centrale româneşti a fenomenelor de violenţă şi elaborarea unor caracterizări/ generalizări asupra acestor prezentări media. Simultan, ca obiective practice, am căutat ca prin cercetarea noastră să identificăm, pe de o parte, direcțiile necesare iniţierii unei campanii de comunicare pentru prevenirea fenomenului violenţei în familie (orice campanie de comunicare presupunând în primul rând existenţa unei „teme” centrale” în jurul căreia să se articuleze mesajele şi strategia de comunicare), iar pe de altă parte, pe baza tipologiei modalităţilor de prezentare a fenomenelor de violenţă în familie în ziarele româneşti, principalele elemente pentru redactarea unui set de recomandări („Ghid de bune practici”) pentru jurnaliştii din presa scrisă cu privire la modalităţile de prezentare a acestui tip de fenomen social.
