Nu se poate vorbi despre cetățile dacice din Munții Orăștie - Șureanu fără calcarele din Dealul Măgura de la nord de Călan, iar cariera de piatră de aici reprezintă într-un fel punctul zero al acestor extraordinare monumente legate de identitatea națională. Cariera de piatră de la Măgura Călanului, cel mai probabil deschisă încă din timpul regatului lui Burebista, a funcționat pe perioada mai multor generații, până la cucerirea romană, la începutul sec. al II-lea d.Hr. Deși legată intrinsec de monumente înscrise în patrimoniul UNESCO, cariera nu este inclusă într-o zonă protejată și nici nu este declarată sit istoric. Proiectul prezent îți propune cercetarea geologică și multidisciplinară detaliată a sitului și îndeplinirea condițiilor ca piatra din cariera de la Măgura Călanului să primească recunoaștere științifică mondială, prin înscriere în lista resurselor cu valoare de patrimoniu mondial (global heritage stone resources).

Project
The project ‘ENGIE – Encouraging Girls to Study Geosciences and Engineering’ aims to turn the interest of 13-18 years old girls to study geosciences and related engineering disciplines. As career decisions are made generally in this period of life, the impact of the project is expected to contribute to improvement in the gender balance in the fields of these disciplines. ENGIE is being implemented by the cooperation of 26 institutions. The partnership involves 3 universities (University of Miskolc, Luleå University of Technology and University of Zagreb), 2 research centres (La Palma Research Centre and National Research Council of Italy) and a European-level professional organisation (European Federation of Geologists), which has 26 national member geological associations. 20 of EFG’s national associations take part in the project implementation as Linked Third Parties and are extending the project activities to more than 20 European countries.
