Conference Paper
Immersive music production starts to integrate Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies. VR creates virtual spaces separated from real-life, often based on the performer-audience relationship. AR goes further by expanding the usual user listening experience over headphones but remains unexplored. The paper presents a work in pro...
Conference Paper
This study uses binaural technology for headphone monitoring in world music, jazz, and free improvisation recording sessions. We first conducted an online survey with 12 musicians to identify the challenges they face when performing in studio with wearable monitoring devices. Then, to investigate musicians’ perceived differences between binaural an...
Conference Paper
Audio Augmented Reality (AAR) consists of adding spatial audio entities into the real environment. Existing mobile applications and technologies open questions around interactive and collaborative AAR. This paper proposes an experiment to examine how spatial audio can prompt and support actions in interactive AAR experiences; how distinct auditory...

Interactive Audio Augmented Reality (AAR) facilitates collaborative storytelling and human interaction in participatory performance. Spatial audio enhances the auditory environment and supports real-time control of media content and the experience. Nevertheless, AAR applied to interactive performance practices remains under-explored. This study exa...

Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR and AR) are promising to complement practitioners’ interventions with autistic children, but they mainly target the socio-emotional abilities of children with low support needs. For autistic children with high support needs, sensory-based and mediation approaches are advised with AR headsets, to keep contact with t...

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterised by profound communication and social interaction deficits. It can lead to social anxiety and depressive thought patterns, leaving the individual unable to be a productive member of society. Music therapy is a method that applies musical experiences and the relationships...

Musicians face challenges when using stereo headphones to perform with one another, due to a lack of audio intelligibility and the loss of their usual benchmarks. Also, high levels of click tracks in headphone mixes hinder performance subtleties and harm performers' aural health. This chapter discusses the approaches and outcomes of eight case stud...

While Extended Reality (XR) autism research, ranging from Augmented to Virtual Reality, focuses on socio-emotional abilities and autistic children requiring low support, common interventions address the entire spectrum and focus on other abilities, including perceptual abilities. Based on these observations, this paper first addresses common practi...

eXtended Reality (XR) autism research, ranging from Augmented Reality to Virtual Reality, focuses on socio-emotional abilities and high-functioning autism. However common autism interventions address the entire spectrum over social, sensory and mediation issues. To bridge the gap between autism research and real interventions, we compared existing...
