Introduction
Despite of biotechnology and pharmacology background, I am currently digging modeling, biostatistic and bioinformatic with several ongoing projects about influenza vaccine and immunity, viral respiratory infections and antibiotic resistance. Highly enthusiasm about co-evolution of avian and human influenza to predict the next seasonal vaccine for human.

Background
During the first half of 2014, a severe outbreak of measles occurred in northern Vietnam, causing 15 033 confirmed cases and 146 deaths.
Methods
To evaluate the population-level seroprevalence of protection against measles in the period before the outbreak, we made use of an existing age-stratified serum bank, collected over the year be...
Vietnam has high rates of antibiotic use and resistance. Measuring resistance in commensal bacteria could provide an objective indicator for evaluating the impact of interventions to reduce antibiotic use and resistance. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and bacterial recovery for different sampling strategies. We conduct...
We analyzed 1,303 SARS-CoV-2 whole-genome sequences from Vietnam, and found the Alpha and Delta variants were responsible for a large nationwide outbreak of COVID-19 in 2021. The Delta variant was confined to the AY.57 lineage and caused >1.7 million infections and >32,000 deaths. Viral transmission was strongly affected by nonpharmaceutical interv...
Background:
In previous trials, point-of-care testing of C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations safely reduced antibiotic use in non-severe acute respiratory infections in primary care. However, these trials were done in a research-oriented context with close support from research staff, which could have influenced prescribing practices. To bette...
Antibodies play a crucial role in protection against SARS-CoV-2. Understanding the correlation between binding and functional antibodies is essential to determine whether binding antibody levels can reliably predict neutralizing activity. We assessed antibody responses in 111 individuals vaccinated with the inactivated vaccine CoronaVac and 111 COV...
Antibiotics were frequently prescribed for respiratory symptoms (56%), fever and fatigue (52%), and urinary tract symptoms (41%), with younger children receiving the lowest proportion of prescriptions compliant with guidelines (63%). 2. Lower compliance with antibiotic guidelines was observed • in patients <6 years old (OR: 0.35 [0.18-0.67]) • in p...
Background
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a silent pandemic causing 1.27 million deaths in 2019, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries, but resistance among commensal microbiota and the determinants of carriage have not been widely reported. This cross-sectional household study aimed to determine the prevalence of carbape...
Background
Beta-lactams remain the first-line treatment of Streptococcus pneumoniae infections despite the increasing global prevalence of penicillin-resistant/non-susceptible strains. We conducted a cross-sectional household survey in a rural community in northern Vietnam in 2018–2019 to provide prevalence estimates of penicillin non-susceptible S...
Background
Data on the dynamics and persistence of humoral immunity against SARS-CoV-2 after primary vaccination with two-dose inactivated vaccine (CoronaVac) are limited. This study evaluated the sequential effects of prior infection, heterologous boosting with mRNA-1273 (Moderna), and the occurrence of Omicron vaccine-breakthrough infection (VBI)...
The first nationwide outbreak of COVID-19 in Vietnam started in late April 2021 and was caused almost exclusively by a single Delta lineage, AY.57. In early 2022, multiple Omicron variants co-circulated with Delta variants and quickly became dominant. The co-circulation of Delta and Omicron happened leading to possibility of co-infection and recomb...
It is feasible and useful to implement a low-cost tool of Global-Point Prevalence Survey for monitoring antibiotic prescription at district-level hospitals in Vietnam. Nurses and administrative staff can play a key role in the implementation of this tool. The study suggests the integration of Global-PPS in multifaceted AMS interventions in similar...
This study aimed at examining the impact of COVID-19 on acute respiratory infections (ARI) and antibiotic prescribing in primary care settings. We used secondary data from 64 commune health centers in Northern Vietnam from 2019 to 2022. Results: Number of visits and ARI cases sharply decreased during the Alpha and Delta waves, and remained lower th...

In 2021, Vietnam experienced a large nationwide outbreak of COVID-19, with over 1.7 million infections and 32,000 deaths. We generated 1,303 SARS-CoV-2 whole-genome sequences, and mapped out the public health measures alongside the evolutionary trajectory of the pathogen. The Alpha variant caused sporadic outbreaks in early 2021 prior to the upsurg...
Low awareness of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance may lead to inappropriate antibiotic use and contribute to the problem of antibiotic resistance. This study explored levels and determinants of antibiotic awareness in a rural community in northern Vietnam, through a cross-sectional survey of 324 households in one commune of Ha Nam Province. Aw...
Background
This study aims to investigate patterns of antibiotic prescribing and to determine patient-specific factors associated with the choice of antibiotics by the World Health Organization's Access-Watch-Reserve (WHO AWaRe) class for acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in rural primary care settings in northern Vietnam.
Methods
We retrospecti...
Vietnam experienced an outbreak of COVID-19 at Bach Mai hospital, a major tertiary referral hospital in March 2020. We describe the findings of the outbreak investigation for the purpose of informing future prevention measures. We defined hospital - related COVID-19 cases as those that tested positive with SARS-CoV-2 RNA using the polymerase chain...
