A critical challenge faced by Malaysia is mitigating the negative impact caused by extreme urban flooding. An overwhelming 90% of natural disasters in Malaysia are related to flooding with forecasts predicting that these phenomena are likely to increase, due to factors such as climate change, rapid urbanisation and population growth. Despite government and research efforts there is a lack of effective management systems, information alerts, and routing solutions that can mitigate the devastating impact of urban flooding to the Malaysian economy, society and environment. This InnovateUK funded project involves a consortium of UK and Malaysian commercial and academic partners, which aim to develop an automatic prediction and monitoring platform for urban flood management. Through exploiting state of the art artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches the system will provide early warning and management decision support for authorities. A web link will be created for disseminating more information about the projects developments and research outputs.
