The British colonizers were interested in Northeast India not only because of administrative purpose and the richness of natural resources but also because of its rich cultural diversity in a small geography. Nagaland is one such example where the colonizer did not only do ethnographic work and devised administrative policy on the land and people but also impacted their everyday life, especially through religion (i.e. Christianity). This paper will talk about the intricate relationship between the British colonizer and the American missionaries in Nagaland whereby delineating the process of its impact on the Nagas. In a milieu where traditional religion already existed the missionaries were not only able to convert the tribal people to Christianity but also imbibe their values on them.
