The HFT Stuttgart research joint venture ‚intelligent city‘ (i_city) works on solutions to central societal challenges of sustainable city development. Six cross-linked fields of action from urban planning, architecture, IT, energy, mobility and finance are addressed. Cooperations with SME, industry and regional authorities have been established to develop innovative concepts of the intelligent city of the future and to transfer them into praxis in the metropolitan region of Stuttgart. The objective of the research joint venture is the development of methods, services and products for highly efficient energy, building and mobility systems in urban areas. 3D GIS tools, real time sensor data and intelligent ICT networking are used for efficient planning and operation of sustainable energy and mobility systems, while allowing citizens to participate and influence the urban transition. www.icity.de
