Temporary international mobility is an increasingly relevant practice amongst academics. However, current literature lacks understanding on whether such mobility influences the individual academics’ entrepreneurial knowledge. This paper hypothesizes that temporary international academic mobility is conducive to the academic’s entrepreneurial knowle...

The current work fills in the existing research gap with regard to business modelling approaches applied to the technologically-driven markets. Taking into consideration the highly innovative and evolving nature of the latter ones, this paper combines the most relevant business modelling methods, creating a detailed, dynamic and holistic integrativ...

University-Industry collaboration (UIC) literature is largely documented with Western European or North-American evidence, where universities are rich in resources and have well-developed R&D infrastructure. Likewise, our knowledge remains limited about UIC in emerging countries, where research resources and R&D are scarce. In this article, we addr...

While studies find support that international academic mobility stimulates academic entrepreneurship, we lack understanding on the relation between these two increasingly relevant phenomena. We draw upon the resource-based view to disentangle this underexplored relation and theorize that international academic mobility augments the academics’ ident...

The rapid growth of the electrical vehicle (EV) market over the last decade has rendered the existence and accuracy of the business models of the EV charging market a critical factor for a company’s success. To address this issue, this paper presents a quantification framework for the business models of the core participants of the EV charging mark...

Interorganizational collaboration is considered to be crucial in improving organizations’ innovation and economic performance. Interorganizational collaborations form interorganizational innovation networks. Despite scholars’ efforts to uncover the dynamics of innovation networks, we lack an understanding of how and why new links emerge between org...

Social networks are increasingly considered to be influential in explaining the knowledge transfer process. Despite scholarly efforts to integrate knowledge transfer and social network research, we lack understanding on how knowledge transfer networks emerge and evolve. We draw upon resource dependency theory and inter-organizational networks and c...

Purpose Academic entrepreneurship (AE) describes activities academics undertake to commercialize their research results. For decades, the phenomenon of AE has been widely studied, both theoretically and empirically, often with a focus on novice or established academic entrepreneurs. We extend this scope and shed light on the under-investigated tran...

International technology transfer between universities is an emerging phenomenon and contributes to the socio-economic development of regions and countries. Technology transfer concerns transactions or long-term collaborations between acquirers and suppliers of technology. Based on strategic management theory, this study constructs a framework on t...
Conference Paper
Literature on Academic Entrepreneurship (AE) is mature, whereas the field of Resource Orchestration (RO) emerged recently from research on resource management and asset orchestration. In the context of AE, RO refers to all the processes AEs undertake in order to gather and allocate the resources needed, i.e. financial, knowledge, network or human r...
Article
Consistent with popular belief among certain academics, practitioners, and policy makers, we hypothesize that collaboration between private and public organizations promotes success. We test this hypothesis for data on clinical trial success. Contrary to this popular belief, our results do not support the beneficial effect of within- and cross-sect...

The purpose of our study is to examine the effects from early-stage and late-stage R&D knowledge on pharma companies’ tendency to engage in collaborative drug development. Our study draws on the knowledge-based view of inter-firm collaborations, a theory that has refined the knowledge-based view of the firm by exploring the relationship between a f...

In this paper, we investigate the global R&D network that emerged from EV and HEV technology development by firms and universities from 1998 to 2010. We visualize and analyze the development of the relevant (joint) patent network and uncover some of the key R&D dynamics within the automotive industry, such as the evolution of the R&D network over t...

The study analyses the extent to which intermodal freight flows (Rail, IWT, Short Sea) occur within and between the TEN-T Corridors. Building on a large database (over 12.500 weekly departures) and using network analysis, the study provides a first detailed description of intermodal flows across Europe. The results can support more directed inter...

Accessing and integrating external knowledge is key to an organization’s success within innovative industries. This can occur through inter-organizational networks such as the Board-of-Directors(BoD)-network. We investigate the relationship between organizational characteristics and presence in a BoD-network, in the context of the biotechnology ind...

We apply the theory of the knowledge-based view on the firm to investigate why pharmaceutical companies enter into inter-organizational collaborations during clinical drug development. A firm’s propensity to collaborate is influenced by the firm’s knowledge base, i.e. its stock of knowledge resources. We consider two knowledge bases that exist with...

For organizations in high-technology industries, knowledge is a critical resource that can be accessed through inter-organizational networks. However, for industries characterized by a heterogeneous set of actors, little is known about how different networks within the industry interact. Therefore, our research question is: How similar are the stra...

The research team investigates on how Academic Entrepreneurs (AE) in (D)OFS refine their business concept and orchestrate their resources. In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, during the initial stages of the technology transfer process, an interaction with the FINESSE consortium will allow to construct a unique longitudinal and international database on multiple stakeholders active in technology transfer processes and projects.
