Introduction
I am full professor of Economics at the University of Montpellier and researcher at the Centre for Environmental Economics of Montpelliier (CEE-M). My research topics deal with the economic and econometric modeling of users behaviour (consumers and firms). A special focus is due to transportation environmental and health issues. More precisely, I am interested by non-market goods valuation. Therefore, most of my papers tackle the issue of value of travel time savings, value of travel time reliability or value of environmental amenities. In this aim, I frequently used econometric models of discrete choice (conditonal logit, nested or mixed logit, etc.) on stated preferences. Indeed, most of the data used in my research comes from Discrete Choice Experiments.

This study examines the acceptance of artificial intelligence (AI)-based diagnostic alternatives compared to traditional biological testing through a randomized scenario experiment in the domain of neurodegenerative diseases (NDs). A total of 3225 pairwise choices of ND risk-prediction tools were offered to participants, with 1482 choices comparing...

This paper presents an empirical analysis that examines the factors influencing service prices and frequencies of conventional high-speed trains (HSTs) in France. The study uses original data spanning from September 2019 to March 2020, focusing on the level of intermodal competition and the diversification strategy employed by the primary rail oper...

Marinas have a major ecological footprint, not only because of the pollution they generate but also because of the introduction and spread of non-indigenous species (NIS). This invites us to reconsider both the practices and in-frastructures of marinas but also their uses and users, as marinas are increasingly recognized as places of well-being. Th...

The core of this paper is an evaluation of the willingness to pay for non-use values of the ecosystem services related to the Banc d’Arguin National Park in Mauritania. This coastal protected area, the largest in Africa, has existed for more than forty years and plays a major role in the conservation of biodiversity. We use contingent valuation to...

Recent studies have shown the importance of relationships with nature, emotions felt, forms of attachment, and experience of nature on conservation motivations. They have proposed characterizing relational values based on these complex interactions with ecosystems. We analyzed these links for ecosystem services (ESs) associated with fish farming po...

The public acceptability of a policy is an important issue in democracies, in particular for anti-COVID-19 policies, which require the adherence of the population to be applicable and efficient. Discrete choice experiment (DCE) can help elicit preference ranking among various policies for the whole population and subgroups. Using a representative s...

This study estimates the competitive effects of horizontal mergers in the French long-distance bus industry. We examine the two mergers that followed the 2015 Deregulation Act (the Macron Law); we use an exclusive and exhaustive dataset that covers eight consecutive quarters. We analyze the merger effects by comparing bus links that were affected b...

We test the effectiveness of a social comparison nudge (SCN) to enhance lockdown compliance during the COVID-19 pandemic using a French representative sample ( N = 1,154). Respondents were randomly assigned to a favorable/unfavorable informational feedback (daily road traffic mobility patterns, in Normandy – a region of France) on peer lockdown com...

This study aimed at assessing the role of travel information provision on behavioral changes in daily mobility in the metropolis of Montpellier in France. We focused on commuter behavior using data collected through an online survey on mobility behavior during the summer of 2015. We found that while 73% of commuters respondents use travel informati...

Ecosystem Services (ES) can contribute to several aspects of human well-being (WB) that we understand as the subjective perception that individuals have of their quality of life, depending on a set of factors. We compare the relative weights of the WB factors resulting from ES (ES-based) and those that do not depend on ES (non-ES-based), from an on...

This study analyzes the perceptions of individuals on retrospective rail punctuality indicators to determine the most useful indicator according to socio-demographic characteristics, regular trip behavior variables, and railways transportation habits variables. In choice situations, individuals must choose between four punctuality indicators and an...

This study aims to assess behavioral changes in transportation habits induced by real-time and multimodal information provided by a mobile application, SmartMoov. The users of SmartMoov (beta-testers) were selected on a voluntary basis. After three months of testing the mobile application in a living lab in Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, we an...

This paper examines to what extent the ecosystem services (ES) provided by coastal (near toMontpellier) or aquaculture ponds (in the Dombes region) contribute to the life satisfaction of local populations and of direct beneficiaries of these ES. This research is based on three face-to-face surveys and an online survey on a national scale, so as to...

The paper aims to shed light on the determinants of choice for new forms of mobility or new modes of transport. More precisely, we focus on transport mode choice between coach and carpooling for long-distance trips in France. To do so, we perform a discrete choice experiment survey in which attributes reflecting elements of comfort and flexibility...

The opening up of the French long-distance bus industry is one of the outcomes of the Loi Macron. In this study, we build a unique data set of several representative bus routes and show that the effects of the liberalization have been encouraging in terms of fares, new entry, higher frequency, and higher quality. First, with regard to international...

In this paper, we derive implementable measures of travelers’ willingness to pay to save travel time (VOT) and to improve the reliability (VOR) of a given trip. We set out a simple microeconomic model of transport mode choice in which each trip is fully characterized by its price and the statistical distribution of its random travel time, assuming...

This paper deals with the estimation of the willingness to pay for travel time reliability (VOR). We report on a stated preferences survey and we provide an econometric treatment of the data using a conditional logit model. The purpose of this article is to show, based on the case of the French market, that consumer perception of different funeral service offers, along with new entry in a special storing facility service (“chambre funéraire”), can be sufficient to impose competitive pressures on the various suppliers, including the former monopolist. With a discrete c...

Reputation mechanisms are mainly based on information sharing by traders about private trading experience. Each trader can therefore rely on his own past experience as a trader and on other traders' past experience. The former is the direct component of the reputation mechanism and the latter the indirect component (Bolton, Katok, & Ockenfels, 2004...

This paper provides an assessment of the competitive eects of deregu- lation on a local market that exhibits typical competitive conditions in the French funeral industry. Using a nested logit model, we first show that demand for funeral services is characterized by relatively high price elas- ticities, which is contrary to widely shared beliefs. V...

This paper tackles the valuation function of travel time savings. Formally, this valuation function is derived from a nonlinear representative utility which successfully relates and to modal choice within the random utility theory framework. We demonstrate the existence of a theoretical relationship between on the one hand, the value of travel time...

This paper tackles the valuation function of travel time savings. More specifically, Box-Cox forms for the modal representative utility are suggested, forms which successfully connect DeSerpa's time allocation model to modal choice within the interpersonal random utility theory framework. From the point of view of the valuation function of travel t...
