Introduction
I work in the Department of Irrigation and Water Management at Bangladesh Agricultural University. I have completed my PhD from Wageningen University and Research. I work on the interactions among the components of climate–crop–water systems. My main interest is to conduct research on agricultural water management under climate change. My expertise involve quantifying and managing water demand of crops and developing adaptation strategies for crop cultivation under climatic stressed conditions.

Reference crop evapotranspiration (ETO) is an important hydro-meteorological phenomenon, which is influenced by changing climate. This study estimated the trends ETO and identified the correlation of changes in ETO with climatic parameters in Khulna and Rajshahi districts of Bangladesh. Daily observed climatic parameters of thirty years (1984-2013)...

Climate change has imposed major uncertainties on food and water security in Bangladesh. Understanding the recent changes in potential yield and water productivity of major crops is essential to formulate effective adaptation strategies under climate change conditions. This study assessed the yield and water productivity variation of dry season Bor...

Rapid changes in climate patterns, population growth, urbanization, and rising economic activities have increased the pressure on the delta's freshwater availability. Bangladesh's coastal planes suffer from a shortage of good quality irrigation water, which is crucial for peri-urban agriculture and at the same time, a high volume of untreated waste...

Understanding the changes in irrigation requirement and possibility of high-temperature stress on major crops are important for food security of Bangladesh. Different water requirement components including potential crop water requirement and potential irrigation requirement were estimated for early, normal and late planting dates of wheat in Bogur...

Adaptation strategies are essential to manage water demand and ensure optimal use of available water resources under climate change. Identification and prioritization of adaptation options would greatly support decision-making in drought-prone Northwest Bangladesh. This study identified climate adaptation options by literature review and stakeholde...

Consideration of future change in water salinity is important for estimating irrigation demand in salinity-prone arid regions. Further, it is important to evaluate the contribution of irrigation efficiency enhancement to climate change resilience. Based on field measurements in 2019, a simulation approach from 2019 to 2050 was carried out in this s...

Reliable past trends of water requirements of individual crops and cropping patterns at local level, although crucially important for irrigation forecast and agricultural planning, are yet inadequate for the water-scarce Barind region of Bangladesh. This study, therefore, determined water requirements and their trends of eight major crops (aus, ama...

In coastal saline areas, many studies ignore salinity problems when quantifying the impacts of climate change on irrigation water requirement. Based on 11 years (2008-2018) of field investigations in a Tunisian coastal oasis, this study simulated the changes in salinity in a coastal aquifer and quantified changes in net irrigation requirement (NIR)...

Suitable adaptation strategies for dry season Boro rice cultivation under future climate change scenarios are important for future food security in Bangladesh. This study assessed the effect of shifting trans−/planting date of dry season Boro rice as an adaptation strategy, with focus on water requirements under future climate scenarios. Potential...
Thesis
This study focuses on quantifying the changes in water requirements of dry season Boro rice under recent and future climate changes. It also assessed the effectiveness of shifting trans-/planting date of Boro rice to adapt to climate change and prioritized adaptation options in Northwest Bangladesh. The FAO developed CropWat 8.0 model was used to q...

Understanding future changes in crop water requirements and irrigation demand in the context of climate change is essential for long-term water resources management and agricultural planning. This study investigates the impacts of climate change on future water requirements of dry season Boro rice. Climate scenarios for four North-West districts of...

The possibility of using sugar mill's wastewater/effluent in irrigation was evaluated by investigating the effects of wastewater on growth and yield of wheat (Triticum aestivum cv. Prodip). The experiment was conducted at North Bengal Sugar Mill site in Natore during December 2011 to March 2012. Three irrigation treatments (I 1 : irrigation with fr...

In this paper supply and utilization of water resources for bioproduction in Bangladesh emphasizing crop production, development of animal resources and development and production of fishery resources have been discussed. Irrigation from the surface water is not feasible for crop production for most of the areas of Bangladesh during winter (October...
Article
Characteristics of rainfall-induced salt leaching was investigated in a field after wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivation under irrigation by synthetic saline water, which was prepared by mixing sodium chloride (NaCl) with fresh water pumped from a borehole well. The treatments of the experiment-I1: root zone soil with salinity 0.12 dS m·1, and...

The possibility of using sugar mill’s wastewater/effluent in irrigation was evaluated by investigating the effects of wastewater on growth and yield of mustard (Brassica Campestris). The experiment was conducted at the farmer’s field near the North Bengal Sugar Mill, Natore, Bangladesh during December 2011 to February 2012. Three irrigation treatme...

The response of three hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) varieties on five irrigation levels was evaluated in an experiment at Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. The experiment included two factors – irrigation and maize variety. The Irrigation treatments/levels were Io (no irrigation), I1 (irrigation at IW (irrigation water need)/CPE (cumulat...
