Introduction
Dr. Sylvain Chamberland received his DMD degree from Laval University in 1983, a Certificate in Orthodontics from University of Montreal in 1990 and a Master degree in dental science in 2008 from University Laval. He has lectured in several graduate programs in orthodontics and scientific meetings in the US, Canada and Europe, and has published articles about SARPE, genioplasty and Condylar resorption. He conducts an active clinical practice, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics

Maxillary transverse deficiency can occur in various clinical dentoskeletal deformities and include unilat- eral or bilateral posterior crossbite, narrow, tapering, or high palatal arch.
The development of temporary anchorage devices led to a new generation of tooth-bone-borne ex- pansion appliance using two or four screws to apply the mechanical f...
Objectives
Anterior open bite can be treated non-surgically via molar intrusion using temporary skeletal devices (TAD). Clear aligner therapy (CAT) is recognized as a viable therapeutic modality for non-extraction treatment of adults with mild open bite. This study aimed to compare the treatment effect and mechanisms of open bite closure between pa...
Molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a qualitative enamel defect that can cause marked areas of hypomineralization on one or more of the first permanent molars. It may also affect the permanent incisors and, less often, the second molars and canines in the adult dentition. The spectrum of severity ranges from mild, asymptomatic cases to severe...
The T-loop spring described and subsequently refined by Burstone and colleagues is an effective device for obtaining the necessary differential moments and thus achieving controlled space closure. This article presents two case reports demonstrating the use of T-loop springs to reduce side effects during the retraction of buccally displaced ectopic...
Skeletal anchorage now provides a nonsurgical option for resolving a combination of open-bite malocclusion with vertical maxillary excess. Dr. Chamberland describes a double-arch molar intrusion method using palatal and buccal miniscrews. Two cases of nongrowing patients are presented to illustrate the technique.
Purpose
A commonly reported complication of Surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion (SARPE) that has not been explored extensively is uneven expansion between left and right sides, which requires secondary surgery for correction. This systematic review aims to analyze the prevalence and potential causes of asymmetric expansion in the transvers...

Abstract: Introduction
This study aimed to determine the vertical and horizontal soft-tissue vs hard-tissue changes after isolated functional genioplasty and to revisit hard-tissue remodeling at the symphysis.
Methods
Seventy-five patients who underwent genioplasty as an isolated procedure at the end of their orthodontic treatment were divided into...
Skeletal open bite is characterized by excessive anterior and
posterior dentoalveolar height, increased lower anterior
facial height, steep mandibular plane, anterior open bite and
a large gonial angle.
With the advent of the temporary anchorage system, molar
intrusion exerted by miniscrews[1-3] or miniplates[4] can
be considered a reasonable alter...
Patients who are predisposed to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) often have upper airway obstruction in the nasopharynx or the oropharynx. Mandibular advancement and tongue-restraining devices are usually effective options for the management of OSA in selected patients. However, positive airway pressure therapy is considered the gold standard treatmen...
Progressive condylar resorption, also known as idiopathic condylar resorption, is an uncommon, aggressive, degenerative disease of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) seen mostly in adolescent girls and young women. This condition leads to loss of condylar bone mass, decrease of mandibular ramal height, steep mandibular and occlusal plane angles, and...
The SUS2 class II corrector device is effective to correct class II malocclusions. Like other fixed functional appliances it may produce dentoalveolar compensation. The goal is not to produce too much. We also may take advantage of reinforced anchorage of the class II device to protract mandibular teeth and retract maxillary teeth in challenging cl...
Dentaurum Practice Essentials, is our contribution to orthodontic excellence. Our goal is to provide an informational series which will be both practically informative and eminently applicable in enhancing your professional enjoyment. Thank you for reading and we hope you will enjoy the current issue. I would like to share my experience with SUS 2...
Objective:
To evaluate the role of age as a moderator of bone regeneration patterns and symphysis remodeling after genioplasty.
Method:
Fifty-four patients who underwent genioplasty at the end of their orthodontic treatment were divided into three age groups: younger than 15 years at the time of surgery (group 1), 15 to 19 years (group 2), and 2...
To the Editor:
I think article by Vilani et al1 in the December issue of your journal does not meet the level of research quality or methodological soundness that a meta-analysis should have. There are several significant problems:
1)
The inclusion criterion of follow-up of at least 1 year after expansion should be interpreted with caution becau...
The purpose of this article is to present further longitudinal data for short-term and long-term stability, following up our previous article in the surgery literature with a larger sample and 2 years of stability data.
Data from 38 patients enrolled in this prospective study were collected before treatment, at maximum expansion, at removal of the...
S elf-ligating appliances were first introduced to the profession in the 1930s by Ford and Boyd. 1 Over the next 40 years, many self-ligating designs were conceived but none resulted in any clinical or commercial impact. In the early 1970s, G. Herbert Hanson, DDS, began to work on the design of a new orthodontic bracket that would improve operator...
To assess the amount of dental and skeletal expansion and stability after surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SARPE).
Data from 20 patients enrolled in this prospective study were collected before treatment, at maximum expansion, at the removal of the expander 6 months later, before any second surgical phase, and at the end of orthodonti...
