The first comprehensive checklist of European phytosociological alliances, orders and classes (EuroVegChecklist) was published by Mucina et al. (2016, Applied Vegetation Science). However, this checklist did not contain detailed information on the distribution of individual vegetation types. Here we provide the first maps of all alliances in Europe...
Aim
This work explores whether the commonly observed positive range size–niche breadth relationship exists for Fagus, one of the most dominant and widespread broad‐leaved deciduous tree genera in temperate forests of the Northern Hemisphere. Additionally, we ask whether the 10 extant Fagus species’ niche breadths and climatic tolerances are under p...
Aim: This work explores whether the commonly observed positive range size–niche breadth relationship exists for Fagus, one of the most dominant and widespread broad-leaved deciduous tree genera in temperate forests of the Northern Hemisphere. Additionally, we ask whether the 10 extant Fagus species’ niche breadths and climatic tolerances are under...
Aim
Vegetation types of Mediterranean thermophilous pine forests dominated by Pinus brutia, P. halepensis, P. pinaster, and P. pinea were studied in various areas. However, a comprehensive formal vegetation classification of these forests based on a detailed data analysis has never been developed. Our aim is to provide the first broad‐scale classif...
Identifying, surveying, monitoring and protecting natural forests is a major task in conservation biology. However, it is often challenging to identify which forest is natural, especially in human-altered regions such as the Mediterranean. Consequently, the distributions of natural Mediterranean forest types and their underlying factors are often u...
This study aimed at analyzing the diversity and ecological characteristics of forest associations (121 relevés classified under eight associations) in Küre Mountains National Park. Ordination analyses (DCA and CCA) and response curves were used to reveal ecological characteristics of vegetation using soil parameters (pH, electrical conductivity, sa...
Forest structural characteristics, which are one of the key determinants of species and habitat
diversity, have also been used as a constitutive factor in sustainable forest management. This study aimed
to analyse the spatial structure (Clark-Evans, segregation and species mingling) of pure fir (7 plots, 1000-
1600 m a.s.l.), fir dominated (5 plo...
The Central Anatolian vegetation has diverse site conditions and small-scale plant diversity. For this reason, identification of plant communities is important for understanding their ecology and nature conservation. This study aims to contribute the syntaxonomical classification of the Central Anatolian vegetation. The study area is situated among...
The high urbanization rate of Istanbul in response to rapid population decreased the size and amount of green spaces. Thereby, every green space types are of vital importance in terms of conservation of urban biodiversity. In this study, it was aimed to compare woody species composition of main green space types consist of artificial and natural si...
Fir forests in Turkey cover approximately 584.871 ha (~2.62% of the total forest area). There are
two species of fir: Abies nordmanniana (including subsp. bornmuelleriana and subsp. equi-
trojani), distributed in the Euro-Siberian phytogeographic region, and Abies cilicica, distributed
on the Taurus and Amanos mountains in the Mediterranean regio...
In the process of producing information from images with very or ultra-high spatial resolution (VHR and UHR), the most accurate results are achieved by using object-based image analysis (OBIA) techniques. The most economical method to obtain UHR images is to use sensor systems that are integrated into unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). In this study,...
Clear-cutting of powerline corridors (PLCs) adversely affects ecosystem function by fragmenting intact forests and supports biodiversity with the development of a structurally diverse vegetation. The study aimed to determine diversity and composition caused by clear-cutting and monitor change in species composition on the PLC passing through Resear...
Large thematic databases of vegetation plots are increasingly needed for vegetation studies and biodiversity
research. In this paper, we present the CircumMed Pine Forest Database (GIVD ID: EU-00-026), which in
November 2018, comprised records from 6317 pine-dominated vegetation plots (relevés) and associated vegetation
types from 20 countries of t...
Aims: The forest vegetation of Turkey has been studied extensively using the Braun-Blanquet approach, but mostly in rather small areas which were not sufficient to provide an integrative phytosociological interpretation. In this study, we formed a regional forest vegetation database and aimed to construct a hierarchical syntaxonomic system using nu...
The study was undertaken in Scots pine shelterwood forests in central Anatolia at the edge of the Eurasian distribution of Scots pine and thus adding significance in terms of understanding the ecology of this important species. Canopy gap size and the position of the sapling within the regeneration cores were chosen within 9 different strip-sample...
Aim: This research is based on vegetation elaboration of Elmacik Mountain in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey, which has a quite rich floristic and vegetation diversity. Methodology: Since varied ecological conditions cause a diverse vegetation in the region, vegetationenvironment relation was analyzed with multivariate statistical techniques...
Küre Mountains National Park is 37.753 ha, whereas our research area is 19.000 ha (Bartın section). Küre Mountains start from Bartın River on the west and runs approximately 300 kilometers on to Kızılırmak River from the east. Also known as İsfendiyar Mountains, the mountain range is extends Black Sea on the north and Gökırmak on the south.

Forests provide a wide range of direct or indirect benefits to urban life which vary over space and time.
Increasing demands from forest resources made planned forest management indispensable for sustainability. At this point, mapping forest stand types have come into prominence from the early stages of planning efforts. Belgrade Forest, which is a...
Aim of the study: This paper provides an analysis of growth and survival of twenty–year–old Scots pine saplings in relation to canopy cover density (CCD) gradients, from dense (D–CCD), sparse (S–CCD), and gap (G–CCD) situations.
Area of study: Aladag (Bolu) in northern Turkey.
Material and methods: Sparse canopy cover density (S–CCD), dense canopy...
Historical pomegranate tree in the garden of Atatürk’s House in Thessaloniki storied that planted by the father of Ataturk, Ali Rıza Efendi, has been one of the most attractive points at the museum. However, in addition to the problems of natural ageing period, constructional works in the garden during restoration of the museum and unappropriate pr...
Indicator species system, which has been used widely in Europe, has many advantages in vegetation analysis. It allows quick interpretation of ecological conditions using floristic data without doing any measurements about site conditions. Considering the amount of phytosociological studies carried out in Turkey, this system may provide important in...
