Introduction
In addition to planning-scientific approaches (using GIS-based methods), I envisage a theory-based landscape research, in which the consequences on landscape and potential land use conflicts resulting from the need for sustainable development are analysed. The presently conducted analyses on energy landscapes with less than two degrees global warming are exemplary for this research.

With the Paris Agreement, it was decided to limit global warming to below two degrees. Hence, national governments are currently confronted with the challenge of implementing concrete climate protection measures. This poses a major challenge especially for Germany, as the phase-out of low-emission nuclear energy additionally increases the pressure...

The energy transition (Energiewende) represents a fundamental transition in the generation and distribution structure of the German energy system. Various support mechanisms, such as the Renewable Energies Act (REA, EGG), have enabled new semi-professional plant operators to enter the energy market. Location decisions were de-professionalized and t...

Potential spatio-temporal patterns of renewable energies that take into account international climate protection strategies have been neither analysed nor visualised exactly in terms of their landscape complexity. Furthermore, it is unclear what land uses would be prevalent in new energy landscapes, due to a lack of restrictions, and which social c...
Article
The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of what characterizes energy landscapes in general and to what extent they are an expression of social inequalities and injustices in the specific case of the German Energiewende. In the sense of a review, the central findings will be integrated into the spatial concept ‘production of space’ b...

vre's spatial concept is well suited to expose the powerfully enforced and socially unbalanced territorial structures of energy landscapes and to distinguish them from the symbolic, emotional, and idealistic reference points that arise from the everyday life in these landscapes. It becomes clear that infrastructure measures for climate protection o...

Background An oversupply of solar radiation in Northern Africa as well as high energy consumption in the economic centers of Central Europe give reason to an international cross-linking of regenerative power supply. A fundamental precondition for this purpose is the development of high-capacity power lines. By this means only, the energy can be eco...
