Introduction
Stefan Zorn's research is in the area of Human Behaviour in Design, which includes the evaluation of prototyping processes, methods and procedures in product development as well as methods for developing individual cognitive abilities of engineering students. In his research, Mr Zorn investigates the effectiveness and efficiency of new and improved methodological tools in the field of prototyping. He also investigates individual cognitive abilities and their influence on the prototyping and plan

Spatial ability is one of the critical components of human intelligence. It has been proven that it is particularly crucial for success, especially in engineering, where interpreting views of an object presented by drawings, visualizing parts, or manipulating geometry in CAD are fundamental skills. Research has confirmed that spatial skills can be...
Spatial Thinking (ST) is an important part of reasoning. In contrast to Rigid ST (R-ST), Non-Rigid ST (NR-ST) has hardly been researched and tests do not exist, even though NR-ST is crucial for professions that deal with space and time such as engineering and design. Our study at 4 different universities confirms that R-ST does not predict performa...
Additive manufacturing offers several potentials such as the freedom of design, part consolidation, function integration, or time and cost-savings. These potentials make AM interesting for industries such as aerospace, automotive and medical implants, and are also seen as enables for the creation of entirely new business models. Additive manufactur...
In seeking to retrofit decade old production systems, there is often the need to re-analyse many facets of the system as previous assessments and past assumptions must be validated or amended. The following paper presents the system modelling and analysis of an industrial cigarette filter maker. The matrix based Integrated Function Modelling (IFM)...
In this paper, a model-based tracking control is proposed for a mechanism dedicated to accurately reproduce the breathing-induced motion of a human lung tumour. A lung tumour mimic model should perform the same smooth motion as a real one in a human body during inhalation and exhalation. In former work, a 3-dimensional mechanism equipped with three...

Subject of this paper is a software product called SIRIUS, which has been developed at the
university of Rostock. It is a computation and simulation tool for hydrodynamic and
hydrostatic plain bearings. This paper is divided in two major parts. On the one hand there
will be a classification of SIRIUS in the current state of technology in combinatio...

There is a strong correlation between spatial imagination and performance in the field of "descriptive geometry" and "creative design". This cognitive ability, which is thus important for designers and product developers, is therefore also trained in university education, in addition to teaching theoretical content. Alternative, partly new teaching materials (media) are available for this purpose.
The aim of this project is to investigate the influence of the use of alternative modern media on the development of spatial imagination. In the future, the results of this study will help to increase the effectiveness of education in achieving the teaching and learning goals.
