People have always dreamed of a selfless servant, a machine that serves humans (Domaine, 2008; Mayor, 2020), a helper who frees people from heavy labor. This dream has inspired the common notion and understanding of the role which robots take in our society: The robot is humans’ servant. The origin of the English word robot lies in the Czech word r...

In the field of management and leadership, this development is about to reach its ultimate peak: the complete replacement of the manager by the robot: the robot as leader. But even now, digitali...
In 2030, the old dichotomy between management and leadership will appear to us in a completely and radically new light. Management is basically routine work. Therefore, it can be treated like accounting or management control automated and done by machines. In contrast, leadership is, to a high degree, nonroutine, creative, and people-interactive wo...

Since the early 2000s, effectuation has gained substantial interest in literature. Whereas Sarasvathy in her seminal 2001 article distinguished effectuation from causal decision-making, still effectuation seems to get confused with ad hoc decision-making or strategy absence. On the basis of a qualitative study with 12 managers from 10 Swiss small-t...

We investigated new product development teams and interviewed change consultants to explore the phenomenon of unlearning in real-life contexts. We par...
Despite theme park corporations increasingly investing in new attractions and fun rides, the topic of customer loyalty is still under-researched in this context. In fact, investments into dark rides are largely unpredictable.

Management in the industrial economy focused on increasing the productivity of single manual workers, because it was easy to determine individual contributions to tangible outputs. Hence carrot-and-stick motivational schemes did a good job in spurring individual work effort. Nowadays however, that motivational approach is outdated and counterproduc...
A successful company succession depends on a multitude of different aspects. In the case of external succession, certainly, the available funds represent a critical factor. Nevertheless, it can be argued that the decision to acquire a company is based on other factors as well. This chapter rests upon the hypothesis that a potential external success...
