Pre-eclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Characterised by the onset of hypertension and proteinuria in the second half of pregnancy, it can lead to maternal end-organ injury such as cerebral ischemia and oedema, pulmonary oedema and renal failure, and potentially fatal outcomes for both mother and fetus. The c...
Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is becoming a common procedure for research into infectious disease immunology. Little is known about the clinical factors which influence the main outcomes of the procedure. In research participants who underwent BAL according to guidelines, the BAL volume yield, and cell yield, concentration, viability, pellet colour...
Conducted research on the effects of Progestins via the Androgen receptor in Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). Progestins which are commonly used in HRT and contraception have been implicated in breast cancer proliferation however have been shown to have anti-proliferative effects (MPA) within TNBC, a rare and nearly untreatable form of breast...
Preeclampsia (PE), a pregnancy-related complication, is a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. The pathophysiology is not fully elucidated.
Activin A and GDF15 are part of the TGFβ superfamily and markers for trophoblast differentiation. Both are senescence associated secretory phenotype (SASP) factors that have been associate...
Tuberculosis (TB) is characterized by the formation of heterogenous, immune-rich granulomas present in various forms in the lungs. Both host and pathogen contribute to this heterogeneity however the molecular and cellular drivers of within-host granuloma heterogeneity remain to be fully elucidated. This knowledge gap is due to a lack of experimenta...

Investigated the development of maternal immune tolerance formation during pregnancy. During pregnancy the mother’s body undergoes significant changes to immune reactivity and energy metabolism, whereby the levels of certain hormones in the periphery fluctuate. Hormones are important regulators of the functional activity of the immune system and im...
