Multi‐scale transgressive‐regressive cycles from the mid‐Jurassic were recognised in the Central Lusitanian Basin, Portugal. These cycles allow the depositional evolution of the basin to be better understood and aid in the construction of stratigraphic sequences composed of three hierarchies. The stacking pattern of high‐frequency transgressive‐reg...

Carbon cycle perturbations dramatically affected the ocean-climate system during the Aptian-Albian transition. However, the chronology of this interval is still intensively debated. Here we present a comprehensive astronomical calibration of planktonic foraminiferal and calcareous nannofossil bioevents along a complete marine sedimentary succession...

The timing of continental-scale marine flooding events in Western Amazonia during the Neogene is still an unsolved question. Despite broad proxy-based evidence of such events, the pathways and duration of late Miocene marine incursions remain controversial. We provide coupled calcareous and organic microfossil and geochemical data from six onshore...
Article
The long-standing view on the Cretaceous climate zones suggests the inception of an Equatorial Humid Belt (EHB) in the Albian. This inception contrasts with recent sedimentological and palynological evidence of sustained low-latitude, wetter paleoenvironment in the South American and African landmasses during the Aptian. The trigger for this early-...

Micropaleontology is crucial branch of Earth Sciences, with a pivotal role in the success of the oil and gas industry over the decades. This sector of paleontology is based on the taxonomical description of microfossils, which encompass fossils with size variation from 0.001 mm to 1 m. Normally these microorganisms have a high rate on preservation,...

Computational analysis applicability to paleontological images ranges from the study of the evolution of animals, plants and microorganisms to the habitat simulation of living beings from a specific epoch. It can also be applied in several niches, e.g. oil exploration, where several factors can be analyzed in order to minimize costs related to oil...

The Brazilian Equatorial Margin (BEM) is a passive continental margin at equatorial latitudes and is composed by a well exposed Aptian section. This study presents a biostratigraphic and paleocological interpretation for the Aptian, based on the integration of some microfossils groups from a well drilled in the offshore portion of Pará-Maranhão Bas...

This study presents the taxonomy of benthic foraminifera, ostracods, and radiolarians of a sedimentary succession within the Lachman Crags Member, Santa Marta Formation (upper Santonian-lower Campanian), northwestern James Ross Island. Twenty-seven benthic foraminiferal species, six ostracod species, and six radiolarian species were identifi ed. Ca...

This work presents a taxonomic study on the Late Maastrichtian radiolarian fauna from ODP Leg 165, Hole 999B, Colombian Basin. The studied fauna is composed by 24 species, being the family Archaeodictyomitridae Pessagno, 1976 the most abundant and diverse. Original opaline skeletons are replaced by calcium carbonate and precise identifications are...
Article
Asystematic study was carried out on the relatively rich and abundant Paleocene to late Oligocene radiolarian fauna from DSDP Site 329 (Leg 36), located on the Falkland Plateau. Among the 78 taxa identified in the studied interval, a new species (Siphocampe ewingensis n. sp.) and a new combination (Eucyrtidium amygdala (Shilov 1995) n. comb. are pr...

An integrated biostratigraphic study of the middle Santonian-upper Maastrichtian interval in the Santos Basin was carried out based on ostracode, charophyte and palinomorph occurrences. Hundred nineteen species of ostracodes and 24 of charophytes were registered in the 14 wells studied. Based on the distribution in time and space of those microfoss...

Project
The Sanfranciscana Basin presents sites of great paleontological and paleogeographic interest for understanding sedimentary environments in Central Gondwana. Kattah and Koutsoukos (1992) in their studies in this area recognized marine radiolarias and dinoflagellates at chert levels intercalated in wind (sabkha) sequences and inferred that a marine entry reached this region in the Eucltaceous. Souza (1993) was able to isolate some specimens of foam radii from a chert sample from Três Barras Formation.
