On the Predicament of the Daughters and the Resources of Life. Witchcraft Crisis in
Nigerian Migration
The Nigerian theocratic migration to Europe relies on a spiritual psychology of abundance that within the human trafficking system involves two women. There is an older woman who has the financial resources to bear the travel costs of the younger...
The aim of the chapter is to analyse a ‘postcolonial archive’ concerning the social production
of adoptable migrant children inside western institutions. Even if anthropology has belatedly taken children into account, today these small subjects have finally been put in their proper place: at the crossroads between the public and the private, betwee...
The article seeks to identify what ‘sensing religion’ means in the context of the migration of Nigerian women. The author reflects on the transformation of a youngster (cadet social) into a ‘fetish-body’ terrified by the experience of constantly being acted by and at the mercy of another who haunts her. She also analyses the production of the fetis...
“I Could Have Hoped. I Had Every Right to Think that It Could Have Happened Differently”. Fragments on the Migrant Family
The aim of the paper is to analyze the “postcolonial archive” concerning the production of adoptable migrant children (or children born from migrant parents) in Europe. Based on their extended ethnographic fieldwork (a long-time...
Just so stories - This paper will not focus on the transformation of subjects and the making of fetishes in migratory experiences of young Nigerian Women: or, put differently, I am not interested here to present in a coherent manner my main fieldwork in the last years (the Nigerian diaspora in Italy). Instead, my aim is to explore in which way anth...
In the aftermath of social conflicts and urban violence between autochthons and migrants in Italy in recent years, the question of how to control the growing number of illegal immigrants is increasingly discussed in the language of zero-tolerance anti-crime campaigns. Traffic in women has been a ‘structural’ social reality in the Italian migration...
Insights of Delusion and Compromised Desires : Thinking Migration with Frantz Fanon
Fanon the Caribbean, Fanon the Algerian, Fanon the Negro : expressions used by critics in recent years that risk deforming the image of a single man fraught by contradictions and unresolvable ambivalences. His works captures a state of subjective emergency, an intim...

The refugee’s situation forces the clinician as well as the social worker to confront with a specifically political horizon. This refers to the violence of history, the painful heritage of colonialism and the disputed expressions of citizenship and sovereignty which are now differentiated and guaranteed in different ways (Ong). This work st...
A credible past and a shameless body: history, violence and repetition in the lives of asylum seekers women in Italy If Freud turns to literature to describe traumatic experience, it's because literature, like psychoanalysis, is interested in the complex relatio between knowing and not knowing.
Possession cults often proliferate during times of dramatic social and cultural changes (colonisation, evangelisa tion, war, etc.). The transitional and collective meaning of this phenomenon received many interpretations. On the other hand, not much attention was paid to the individual experience of change, to doubt, and to contradictory attitudes...
In West Africa, where infant and child mortality is rife, expectations about the normal sequence of life and death (which posit complex relations between children, the wilderness and the invisible world inhabited by ancestors, spirits and deities) are often disrupted. Mainly based on fieldwork in South Cameroon, this article discusses the ways in w...
