Introduction
In the course of my investigations of the chondrichthyan fauna of the western Indian Ocean, I am describing several new chondrichthyan species. Additionally, redescriptions and new occurrences will be published. Furthermore, I am planning to develop a checklist for the cartilaginous fish species of this region. The results of this project will supply important information for the assessment of the conservation status of species and for the establishment of management and protection programs.
