"Strategy" in videogames can bear a lot of meanings; so does "strategy games." The intuitive approach is to consider strategy games as descendants of wargames and, consequently, to define "strategy" as it is defined in the context of war. Nevertheless, when used in different contexts, such as games, war, politics, game theory, or business, "strateg...

This call seeks chapters to be included in an edited book that would be titled Depictions of Power: Strategy and Management Games. Accepted proposals will be included in a submission for the collection "Approaches to Digital Game Studies" at Bloomsbury.
One could say that strategy and management games are the quintessential depictions of power. R...
Extensive literature underlines the importance to critically examine the phenomenon of game classification. In computer games magazines of the 1980 decade, the combination of "action", "arcade," or "real-time" with "strategy" is quite common. Here and there, the expression "real-time strategy" is used. But real-time strategy games as we will come t...
J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth is one of the most adapted universes in games from various genres. But the prior knowledge of a narrative leads to a whole different experience than when one’s faced with an unknown story. This article will deal with different videogames adaptation, including the real-time strategy game The Lord of the Rings: The Battl...

An emulator is an application that tries to mimic another system in order to run applications the way they were run on their original system. It is usually used by gamers
interested in playing older games on newer systems: older console or arcade games on
PC, DOS games in a recent version of Windows, etc. It can also be a way to play contemporary g...
Strategy games have their roots in wargames. One of the first known war simulations
was Kriegsspiel, a nineteenth-century board game made by a Prussian lieutenant in order
to depict combat situations, as opposed to chess, in which the war theme is merely
symbolically represented by the pieces (Egenfeldt-Nielsen, Smith, & Tosca, 2008, p.
46). There...
