p>In a first, tentative and explorative review, the paper discusses issues of resilience performance in socially addressed illness narratives in the context of political communication and self-representation.
e feri...
Globalisation, increasing mobility, and the creation of transnational networks are transforming the linguistic ecologies of contemporary societies, em- phasising the urgency of revising the notion of speakerness and the primacy of the “native speaker”. In light of the reality of the new social practices of communication, the following questions ari...

The article presents methodological and practical experiences of an inter-university research project "Language of boundaries-Boundaries of language. Paralinguistic aspects of intercultural communication", one of project tasks being conducting interviews with Polish and German senior respondents. The “Banter Principle” describes cases in which an offensive utterance (for example: German: “Du Arsch!” or Polish: “Ty draniu”) is not addressed by the speaker to the interlocutor with an aggressive intention, but it is intended to be an expression of admiration which reinforces the relationship with the Addressee. In addition, use of such languag...
Abstrakt
The paper attempts to define the term "communicative space” for (im)politeness research. “Communicative space” is a crucial notion for the definition of concepts such as “ritual balance”, “discursive rule”, “discursive position”, “territoriality”, “field of action” and “co-construction of communicative interaction” (Jacoby, Ochs 1995). “C...
The chapter attempts to define a dynamic model for the analysis of conflictive processes caused by verbal aggression and impoliteness. The linguistic interest in verbal aggression is motivated by the illocutionary force and perlocutionary effects of aggressive utterances, i.e., by the performed acts associated with the interlocutor’s communicative...
The first part of this article traces the most important phases of the semantic enrichment and “terminologisation” (in the sense of the transformation of a lexical item from a generic word into a scientific term) of the German expression “Gestalt.” The word “Gestalt” (English translations are: “form,” “shape,” “configuration,” “aspect”) was already...
The Austrian writer Robert Musil (1880-1942) studied philosophy and psychology at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Berlin (1903-1908) and was a student of Carl Stumpf. With him also studied future gestalt-psychologists. The intellectual impulses he received at this time had a determining influence on his thinking and on his way of understanding...

Questions
Question (1)
Dear Colleagues,
I want to ask your opinion about the use of images in scientific works. For research in multimodal discourse analysis the possibility to quote images (Bildzitate) is essential and guaranteed by the European Laws an Copyright. Anyway, it is a good practise "to inform" the publishing houses about the use of the images in scholar works.
Recently, I wrote a paper on the use of images provoking scare (Schreckbilder) in the Islam debate. I analysed the covers of magazines from 2002 to today. I got the "permission" of all magazines. Just "Time" asked me a fee of 2500 $.
I was quite shocked, so I wanted to ask you which are your experiences.
For me it is a principal question: for example, if I as a scientist want to show how a cover is manipulating the reality and the readers, do I have to spend before 2500 $ for it?
I think that in a normal democratic society the quotation right has to be extended also to the images, which are essential part of our communicative devices.
I am very interested in your opinion.
Thank you!
