How can I ensure that all two-digit years (example: 43) are understood as belonging to the 20th century, i.e. 1943?

I've tried using syntax ("set epoch=1900") but for some reason this works only for a small minority of birth dates (4 in a list of 200). The other dates are unaffected and seem to be listed as 1943 or 2043 by chance.
