This research was done by me for WRI India's - Landscape Restoration India Program. The research piece focuses on understanding the current scenario of landscape restoration finance in India. The research provides insight into the magnitude of landscape restoration finance in India and develops an architecture describing the actors, channels and fi...
The accelerating rate of environmental degradation accompanied by climate change concerns has led to the quest for sustainable development. The realization that the natural resource base is finite and that we need to work towards using it judiciously so as to secure our future generations has assumed immense significance. However achieving this is...
Forest ecosystems assume a significant role in climate change mitigation by the virtue of being one of the largest terrestrial carbon sinks. In India, Sikkim is one of the most pro-active states in leading the implementation of conservation policies and is recognised as a key conservation hub. Sikkim adopted a grazing exclusion policy in 1998 owing...
Centre for Development Finance (CDF) at the Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) Chennai, in collaboration with the Department of Forest Environment and Wildlife Management, Sikkim (DFEWM) conducted this study to evaluate grazing exclusion policy in protected forests in West Sikkim. The goal of the study was to examine the effect...
Forest ecosystems assume a significant role in climate change mitigation by the virtue of being one of the largest terrestrial carbon sinks. Forest management as a climate mitigation option has been a debatable subject. In this paper we bring out the potentials, barriers and opportunities associated with mitigation through forest management using a...
Program evaluations for conservation interventions have to take into account the complex interrelationships of various components in an ecosystem. Measuring direct impact can be difficult, given that changes are often the result of complex systemic interactions and can take a long time to evolve. Therefore, the focus of the paper is to bring forth...
The study served as a baseline study for agrochemical pollution in the wetland ecosystems in the Shyampet Mandal of Warangal district. Eleven tanks in the region were selected for the study. I am working on a coastal resilience investment planning project. A large area part of the area is an active delta. The islands in the region have embankments for protection - a combination of concrete/brick/mud structures depending on the distance from the coast.
We are looking at the potential of nature-based or hybrid solutions for coastal protection. Looking for any reference material or examples of alternative / sustainable materials for the construction of embankments in coastal or tidal plains. Especially trying to see literature to ascertain if stabilized earth embankments are suitable in such environments and if any real-life case studies exist for the same.
For an assessment on natural alternatives for replacing one time use plastics / thermocols, need some resource links on Saccharum bengalense describing its morphological characteristics and nutritional properties.
I want to examine the area of influence of a wetland and demarcate it. I would like to know the steps involved for doing it using GIS. Also what information from field is required for the same.
Thank you.
