Segmenting dance video into short movements is a popular way to easily understand dance choreography. However, it is currently done manually and requires a significant amount of effort by experts. That is, even if many dance videos are available on social media (e.g., TikTok and YouTube), it remains difficult for people, especially novices, to casu...

Kumite is a karate sparring competition in which two players face off and perform offensive and defensive techniques. Depending on the players, there may be preliminary actions (hereinafter referred to as “pre-actions”), such as pulling the arms or legs, lowering the shoulders, etc., just before a technique is performed. Since the presence of a pre...

Composing choreography is challenging because it involves numerous iterative refinements. According to our video analysis and interviews, choreographers typically need to imagine dancers' movements to revise drafts on paper since testing new movements and formations with actual dancers takes time. To address this difficulty, we present an interacti...

Sensor data has been used in social security and welfare infrastructures such as insurance and medical care to provide personalized products and services; there is a risk that attackers can alter sensor data to obtain unfair benefits. We consider that one of the attack methods to modify sensor data is to attack the wearer’s body to modify biometric...

Hair quality is easily affected by the scalp moisture content, and hair loss and dandruff will occur when the scalp surface becomes dry. Therefore, it is essential to monitor scalp moisture content constantly. In this study, we developed a hat-shaped device equipped with wearable sensors that can continuously collect scalp data in daily life for es...

An ideal self-adjusting environment requires adapting human thermal comfort automatically and continuously measuring the changes in human thermal comfort. According to the PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) model, human thermal comfort could be evaluated by human biometric data and environmental data. In this paper, we proposed a method to estimate human th...

The restoration of finger motor functions is considered difficult during rehabilitation due to the complexity of the underlying muscles. The Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) method is used by doctors to manually assess the level of finger movement impairment. However, there is a risk of evaluation errors due to inherent subjectivity. Therefore, a new, m...

Restoring the motor function of the fingers is considered to be difficult during rehabilitation period due to the complexity of the muscles. The Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) method is used by doctors to manually assess the level of impaired finger movement. This leads to subjectivity and the risk of evaluation errors. Therefore, a method that is abl...

Contemporary online lessons that use web-conferencing systems suffer from several issues, mainly because instructors engage in the same type of instruction as they do in conventional offline lessons. For example, it might be difficult for learners to grasp three-dimensional movements. Teaching through a video displayed on a screen is also limited,...

Several supportive methods have been proposed to assist learners by moving their bodies while receiving information by means of visual, auditory, and tactile information presentation. Previous research proposed a learning method called “separated learning,” which divides the learning process into two phases: one concentrates on receiving informatio...

This study proposes a dance practice system allowing users to learn dancing by watching videos in which they have mastered the movements of a professional dancer. Video self-modeling, which encourages learners to improve their behavior by watching videos of exemplary behavior by themselves, effectively teaches movement skills. However, creating an...

We describe the AIST Dance Video Database (AIST Dance DB), a shared database containing original street dance videos with copyright-cleared dance music. Although dancing is highly related to dance music and dance information can be considered an important aspect of music information , research on dance information processing has not yet received mu...

This paper presents Query-by-Dancing, a dance music retrieval system that enables a user to retrieve music using dance motions. When dancers search for music to play when dancing, they sometimes find it by referring to online dance videos in which the dancers use motions similar to their own dance. However, previous music retrieval systems could no...

As social media has matured, uploading video content has increased. Multiple videos of physical performances, such as dance, are difficult to integrate into high-quality videos without knowledge of video editing principles. In this study, we present a system that automatically edits dance-performance videos taken from multiple viewpoints into a mor...

Purpose When designing a performance involving people and mobile robots, the required functions and shape of the robot must be considered. However, it can be difficult to account for all of the requirements. The purpose of this paper is to discuss a mobile robot in the shape of a ball that is used in theatrical performances. Design/methodology/ap...

When designing a performance involving people and mobile robots, we must consider the required functions and shape of the robot. However, it can be difficult to account for all of the requirements. In this paper, we discuss a mobile robot in the shape of a ball that is used in theatrical performances. Such a spherical robot should be agile and be a...

In recent years, as robotics technology progresses, various mobile robots have been developed to dance with humans. However, up until now there have been no system for interactively creating a performance using multiple mobile robots. Therefore, performance using multiple mobile robots is still difficult. In this study, we construct a mechanism by...

In recent years, as robotics technology progresses, various mobile robots have been developed to dance with humans. There have been different approaches to enhance physical expression by adding these robots. However, in the performance of using these mobile robots, it is not clear the correspondence between the body expression and the mobile robot'...

Improving physical expressions and the sense of rhythm in dance performances has become important in recent years due to the increase in child dancers and dance studios. Even beginners in dance gain more opportunities to perform dances in groups. When dancing in a group, collapsed formation will greatly reduce the quality of dance performance even...

Collapsed formation in a group dance will greatly reduce the quality of the performance even if the dance in the group is synchronized with music. Therefore, learning the formation of a dance in a group is as important as learning its choreography. However, if someone cannot participate in practice, it is difficult for the rest of the members to ga...
