Introduction
Synthesis of different types of glasses ranges from oxides, oxy-nitride and metallic systems by melt-quench, inert gas condensation and sputtering methods. Moreover, the crystallization of glass through thermal processing is also carried out. Structural, thermal, mechanical, optical, electrical, and magnetic properties of the above glass materials are evaluated.

In this study, the alloying of immiscible elements, Fe and Cu, at the atomic level was studied using three-dimensional atom probe tomography (3D APT). The sample was prepared as nanoglass using the inert gas condensation technique with the thermal co-evaporation of Fe90Sc10 alloy and pure Cu. The final composition of the nanoglass was found to be F...

Amorphous (a-) Fe90−xCoxSc10 alloys have been produced by rapid quenching from the melt. The Curie temperature, TC, was determined using both mean field theory and Landau’s theory of second-order phase transitions in zero and non-zero external fields. The dependence of TC on the atomic spacing can be explained by the empirical Bethe-Slater curve. T...

Lithium disilicate is a critical glass forming composition as it is the basis of some glass-ceramics and it is also a model glass for the study of homogeneous and heterogeneous crystal nucleation. Incorporation of nitrogen in this glass significantly changes its structure and affects different properties. In this paper, nitrided lithium disilicate...
Article
Lithium silicates have been used as model glasses for scientific and technological studies of glass-ceramics because they easily crystallize in the interiors, even without the addition of any nucleating agent. On the other hand, partial replacement of oxygens with nitrogens affects most properties of oxide glasses, but its effect on the crystalliza...

This paper describes the preparation of a transparent glass-ceramic from the SiO2-K2O-ZnO-Al2O3-TiO2 system containing a single crystalline phase, gahnite (ZnAl2O4). TiO2 was used as a nucleating agent for the heat-induced precipitation of gahnite crystals of 5-10 nm. The evolution of the ZnAl2O4 spinel structure through the gradual formation of Al...

Glass has been an important material since the early stages of civilization. Glass–ceramics are polycrystalline materials obtained by controlled crystallization of certain glasses that contain one or more crystalline phases dispersed in a residual glass matrix. The distinct chemical nature of these phases and their nanostructures or microstructures...

Blue shifts of the surface plasmon resonance band of sub-10 nm gold in dichroic phosphate glass nanocomposites are observed with increase in both size of gold nanoparticles and refractive index of the medium, which are contrary to the common trends. These phenomena have been enlightened with the electrodynamics theories (Mie and Drude models) and h...
