Introduction
I am currently working on a book project on 'Becoming Malaysian: British Business and Malaysia’s New Economic Policy in the 1970s and 1980s'with Prof Nick White.
In interrogating newly available archives, this book will provide fresh insights into the development, implementation and consequences of the NEP. It will constitute the first in-depth historical study of the NEP since previous work has been dominated by political economists and anthropologists.
The book is timely especially given the very recent change of government in Malaysia. Discussions of the future of affirmative action policies, as well as the country’s relations with foreign capital and its engagement with globalisation, are again top of the political agenda.
This book will be published by Taylor & Francis, UK
