Introduction
My PhD research focused on conversational agents for behaviour change. Currently I'm mainly interested in potentials and risks of Natural Language Generation using Generative Pretrained Transformer models. I like to take an interdisciplinary approach to my research and care about ethical implications of technological processes.

While it is often assumed that searching for information to evaluate misinformation will help identify false claims, recent work suggests that search behaviours can instead reinforce belief in misleading news, particularly when users generate queries using vocabulary from the source articles. Our research explores how different query generation str...
Valuable insights into an individual's current thoughts and stance regarding behaviour change can be obtained by analysing the language they use, which can be conceptualized using Motivational Interviewing concepts. Training conversational agents (CAs) to detect and employ these concepts could help them provide more personalized and effective assis...
Scarcity of user data continues to be a problem in research on conversational user interfaces and often hinders or slows down technical innovation. In the past, different ways of synthetically generating data, such as data augmentation techniques have been explored. With the rise of ever improving pre-trained language models , we ask if we can go b...
In this description paper we outline the system architecture submitted to Task 4, Subtask 1 at SemEval-2022. We leverage the generative power of state of the art generative pretrained transformer models to increase training set size and remedy class imbalance issues. Our best submitted system is trained on a synthetically enhanced dataset with 10.3...
Refugees trying to get to Europe via the Mediterranean often face human rights violations. The present situation is not in line with the UN's SDG's 10 and 16. We present Argo: a semi-automatically created vessel classification dataset focused on small boats, with the aim to enable NGOs and the public to detect refugee boats in satellite imagery. We...
The First Early Career Researchers Roundtable for Information Access Research Workshop , in conjunction with the Seventh ACM Conference on Human Information Interaction and Retrieval (CHIIR) 2022, looked into the future of research, collaborations, and self-development to ask the following. Where are the opportunities for researchers in a (post-)pa...
The Future Conversations workshop at CHIIR'21 looked to the future of search, recommendation, and information interaction to ask: where are the opportunities for conversational interactions? What do we need to do to get there? Furthermore, who stands to benefit?
The workshop was hands-on and interactive. Rather than a series of technical talks, we...
