Over the last decades the Web has evolved from a human-human communication network to a network of complex human-machine interactions. An increasing amount of data is available as Linked Data which allows machines to "understand" the data, but RDF is not meant to be understood by humans. With Jekyll RDF we present a method to close the gap between...

The International Data Spaces initiative (IDS) is building an ecosystem to facilitate data exchange in a secure, trusted, and semantically interoperable way. It aims at providing a basis for smart services and cross-company business processes, while at the same time guaranteeing data owners’ sovereignty over their content. The IDS Information Model...

To create innovative connected products and services, more and more interdisciplinary development efforts across industries covering hardware, software and business model design are required. One example for this is smart textiles, where the complexity of the value chain has so far hindered the successful market launch of new products. In this pape...

Open Data portals often struggle to provide release features (i.e., stable versioning, up-to-date download links, rich metadata descriptions) for their datasets. By this means, wide adoption of publicly available datasets is hindered, since consuming applications cannot access fresh data sources or might break due to data quality issues. While ther...

Supply Chain Management aims at optimizing the flow of goods and services from the producer to the consumer. Closely interconnected enterprises that align their production, logistics and procurement with one another thus enjoy a competitive advantage in the market. To achieve a close alignment, an instant, robust and efficient information flow alon...

With the LUCID Endpoint, we demonstrate how companies can utilize Linked Data technology to provide major data items for their business partners in a timely manner, machine readable and with open and extensible schemata. The main idea is to provide a Linked Data infrastructure which enables all partners to fetch, as well as to clone and to synchron...

Online social networking has become one of the most popular services on the Web. Especially Facebook with its 845Mio+ monthly active users and 100Mrd+ friendship relations creates a Web inside the Web. Drawing on the metaphor of islands, Facebook is becoming more like a continent. However, users are locked up on this continent with hardly any oppor...

The core of a Linked Data application is the processing of the knowledge expressed as Linked Data. Therefore the creation, man-agement, curation and publication of Linked Data are critical aspects for an application's success. For all of these aspects the LOD2 project provides components. These components have been collected and placed under one di...

Precise information on spatial patterns of species richness and endemic species distribution is important for effective species conservation. In the Caucasus Ecoregion such information is virtually non-existent for invertebrate taxa. Using occurrence data from a large database we calculated species distribution models with the GARP algorithm for 47...

Data integration in large enterprises is a crucial but at the same time costly, long lasting and challenging problem. In the last decade, the prevalent data integration approaches were primarily based on XML, Web Services and Service Oriented Architectures (SOA). We argue that classic SOA architectures may be well-suited for transaction processing,...

AbstractWhile the number of knowledge bases in the Semantic Web increases, the maintenance and creation of ontology schemata still remain a challenge. In particular creating class expressions constitutes one of the more demanding aspects of ontology engineering. In this article we describe how to adapt a semi-automatic method for learning OWL class...

Recently, the publishing of structured, semantic information as linked data has gained quite some momentum. For ordinary users on the Internet, however, this information is not yet very visible and (re-) usable. With LESS we present an end-to-end approach for the syndication and use of linked data based on the definition of templates for linked dat...

RDF triple stores are used to store and query large RDF models. Semantic Web applications built on top of such triple stores re-quire methods allowing high-performance access control not restricted to per model directives.
