Introduction
I have focused my work and research on archaeological reconstructions and 3D documentation. In my time as a student, I started a company specialised in scientific visualisation and archaeological reconstruction called Artefacts. In my PhD I am researching reconstruction drawings of the 19th and early 20th centuries and how they formed our present image of ancient West Asia. I am also interested in Digital Teaching and Archaeogaming and write also for a second blog about Archaeoinformatics.

As for every aspect in our daily lives, in the past two decades a digital turn has stormed Archaeology. More specifically, in the field of Palaeolithic research, 3D recording methods are currently starting to become an established standard in the documentation, study and analysis of lithic artefacts. Once made available to public, the DISAPALE proj...

The Roman burial chamber and its Prussian protective building at Köln-Weiden have been digitally recorded and virtually reconstructed as part of an interdisciplinary project run by the University of Cologne and the Technical University of Cologne. The original structure is well worth a visit and the experience can now be enhanced by viewing its dig...

Archaeological reconstruction has been part of archaeology since its beginnings. From rudimental sketches to elaborated artwork, from pages in a notebook to immersive three-dimensional worlds, from detailed scientific research to mere fantasy, the spectrum of quality, media and reliability of archaeological reconstructions is broad and shows a wide...

Recent developments in the field of archaeology are not only progressing archaeological fieldwork but also changing the way we practise and present archaeology today. As these digital technologies are being used more and more every day on excavations or in museums, this also means that we must change the way we approach teaching and communicating a...

When talking about monuments, size undeniably matters - or does it? But how else can we measure monumentality? Bringing together researchers from various fields such as archaeology, museology, history, sociology, Mesoamerican studies, and art history, this book discusses terminological and methodological approaches in both theoretical contributions...

This paper looks at the influences that shaped early architectural reconstruction drawings in Near Eastern Archaeology, starting with the 1867 visualisation of Khorsabad by Victor Place. The reconstruction of the ziggurat and the two domes flanking the principal entranceway to the palace at Khorsabad are of special interest.
